Hi fellow festool owners or perhaps I should say addicts.
I am not sure this is the right section for my questions but here goes anyway.
I will be needing to replace my old Nilfisk vacuum extractor soon for various reasons.
I have sort of narrowed down my choice between a Numatic hml570 see link http://www.axminster.co.uk/numatic-hml-570s-vacuum-extractor and http://www.numatic.co.uk/products4.aspx?id=350 . And a Festool CT 26 extractor with a dust deputy on top, either the ultimate dust deputy or I will make my own drop box. http://www.oneida-air.com/inventoryD.asp?item_no=AXD000009 or http://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/dust-mite-and-systainer-drop-box-t74625.html?hilit=dust%20mite
The reason I would want the cyclone with the Festool is because of the expense of the bags, with the numatic the bags are a quarter of the price of the festool ones. Also I think it is a professional looking setup with a small footprint.
The pros of the Numatic are the filtration level H which is the same as their asbestos vacs, so a very high standard. Also the bags are cheap and readily available as are the accessories.
With regards to the pricing the difference in purchase price is not huge, I am more concerned with the long term running costs and durability of the vacuum and its accesories. Also the more I look into it why not go for the best level of protection for myself and customers.
Just to add, I do cabinet making, joinery and a lot of Sash window restoration. In my workshop I have a big extractor with plastic collection bags and fine filtration. The new unit would be for connection to sander, planer, router (routing puttys out for double glazing units) and general clean up on site.
My questions are several:
Do UK/ European model CTL vacuums come with the HEPA filter as standard or will I need to purchase one seperately ?
I notice all the American ones have HEPA written on them but the European ones just have L class or M class or even H class. which leads on to question 2.
What are the physical differences between the CTL, CTM and CTH models other than the filters ?
I have also seen that the CTH has even more expensive bags.
If I had a CTL 26 with hepa filter is this fine for MDF and unknown (maybe lead) paint dusts. ?
What are general opinions of the CT vacuums and does anyone have the Numatic HML or the ultimate dust deputy?
Which HEPA standard are the festool filter as I have found there are many see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HEPA
I have read through some of the Festool brochures but I find this adds to my confusion.
The matter of purchasing a powertool extractor is much more difficult than I had anticipated I have discounted many on the grounds of low powertool socket output, very expensive bags, availability of spares ( a problem I have with the Nilfisk) and general value for money.
Thanks for your time, I realise this may be a bit of a long post.
Ollie
