Hi, Just bitten the bullet and ordered my CTL 26 and tradesman's cleaning kit. Just wondering which bags people use, are they re-usable? is it worth getting a long life bag?

Cheers,

Rob

You may not get many answers to your question on this forum as most of the members here are located in North America and the CT 26 is unavailable here. But there was a similar question posed somewhere about long life bags for the CT22. If I remember correctly, one good response was to get a dust cyclone for only slightly more than the long life bag, and this way you will need to replace regular bags much less often.

Richard.

That's true, but here in the UK cyclones aren't really available. Or if they are, they're very well hidden.

Rob,

The standard bags for the CT22/33/midi/Mini are not designed to be re-used, though some people do empty them & tape them up (I'm not one of them). They are a paper bag outer with a paper-based inner filter liner. The bags for the CT26/36 are of an entirely different construction, though I'm not entirely sure what they are made of. I don't own a CT26/36 so have no knowledge as to whether you could cut them open to empty & then tape back up.

It also depends on what you're using it for. If you're only using it for a TS55, or a sander, then you'll probably find it takes forever to fill a bag. On the flip-side, if you're planing solid timber you can fill a bag in about 10 minutes.

My advice would be to stick with the regular bags for now, and just see how you get on. If a few months down the line you decide that you're spending a fortune using one bag a week, you can then buy the long-life. but if you buy the long-life now, and discover you're only emptying it once every 3 months, then you've already wasted your money.

Thanks for the advice Jonny, I'll get me some normal bags and see how I go. Cheers!

hi rob.
it is definitely worth while buying the long life bags.
long term. 5-10 years. you will save money.
i own the ct-22 and ct-33.
i have looked at buying the ct-26 and ct-36.

there is not much difference between the old models and the new models when discussing which bags to use.

i use the disposable bags when i am sanding glues, epoxy resin and plaster board.
i use the long life bag for general wood dust, such as mdf, chipboard hard and soft woods.

the long life bag is very expensive, thats why i only use it with timber.
the resins that i sand would clog up the long life bag and there for reduce the life span of the bag.

when cleaning the workshop at the end of the day, i am very careful not to vacuum up nails or screws.
these would go straight through the long life bag. so be careful.

regards, justin.

I believe the CT26/36 filter bags are some sort of synthetic fabric so I don't think you can cut, empty and tape them up.

Although they don't say what the bags are actually made of, here are two extracts from the CT26/CT36 brochure which describe the new bags:
