CTL Midi Auto function not working - it turns on without anything plugged in!

Someone borrowed my CTL Midi and a festool drop saw for a day and at some point the auto-function stopped working on the extractor. Instead of being off until the saw started, it was just constantly on if the switch was on "auto" or "man" regardless of any tool being plugged into it let along being in operation.

He did say he had a bit of a jump-back from the saw going through a thick hardwood sheet which might've been when the auto function stopped working but as I wasn't there I can't say for certain. It sounds like some sort of switch is just permanently in the 'on' position.

Has anyone else had this issue or know what it might be? And crucially whether it's an easy fix or not.

Thanks!

If the Auto position act like an On position, I am afraid that your switch is toasted. I never looked under the hood but there is a circuit board attached to the switch that detect power consumption and that board might have received a discharge and some of the board components fried  [huh]

Does it happen even when there is no power cord plugged to the output unit?

I think that it is time to contact Festool UK about getting it serviced unfortunately.

It is most likely that the triac on the control board has shorted. As stated above Festool service is indicated.

Yeah the auto switch operates effectively the same as the manual switch, regardless of whether something is plugged into the output unit.
