CTL26 sooooo disappointing

I'm back!

Just ran a quick Cnc program

The handle sticks up high so I needed to stick some washers to pack up the 15mm birch.

Its solid I have jumped up and down on it! Its flat so I can use it to work as a mini bench and it won't crack!

Wish I done it sooner took me minutes to do.  Also stained it in this time so don't think I should have stood on it while it was still wet oh well.

Just put some Ø20 mm holes in it and you have your one CTL-MFT version.
And watch out otherwise Festool will copy it without letting you know.

I did think about doing that but then thought just wanted to get it done because I  have plenty of clamping edge all all round and I can get a clamp where the handle is.

Maybe I should have .... Thinking about it bench dogs dam it!

I'll make another one maybe Tomorrow.

And add the cleats for the systainers too?

T-loc?  umm don't know if I want to start to go into that much detail with the CNC program.

This took me no time at all.  I turned my CNC on placed a scrap piece of birch plywood. While my CNC warmed up.
I measured what I needed from the CTL hole positions handle position etc.

Did a quick drawing and then tool path it.  Homed the CNC to scrap piece run program.

Got some washers screwed plywood to CTL gave it a quick coat of Oil.

Took some photos and jumped on it.

All in 30mins  [big grin]

Maybe this is just a chink in their armor. They make fabulous tools.....close to the top of the food chain for quality but not nearly as expensive as some can be even as expensive as Festool is. but their not Gods over there. Maybe this vac stuff is just not a strong point for them. What a shock if that were the case. Can't think of hardly anything farther away from a track saw than a shop vac.

I almost think this point has been made abundantly clear.

Anyone interested in a thread to see if we can get a Syslite to break?

I have two syslites and not broken either of them they are robust .  They are how they should be.

So I am sorry if I am boring you but I feel this shouldn't be swept under the carpet.

I think this is a very poor design flaw by festool and if this topic stays HOT festool are ALOT more likely to take note and do something about it. The end of the day its in the interest of festool to do something about it.

The thing is their old Vac CT22 was upto site standards and could take a knock so to bring out a new and ''improved'' CTL models which need protecting is rather disappointing.

To add to this I knew others had the same problem but because it didn't affect performance it was left by many as just a cosmetic problem likely thinking its their fault any way being to rough with it.

but its not its festools fault why it breaks easily NOT the users.

Maybe but its something festool can EASILY make good.  They managed with their old Vacs I own one and its still going strong.

I loved the CT22 and on that basis I bought the CTL26 as a second vac although I always hated a permanently fixed hose carriage I thought I could live with it but this I cant.

Festool are easily capable of doing a much more durable vac.  Something went wrong down the line.  In the design and choice of plastic.  Maybe festool tried to cut corners to reduce cost? or it was just a simple mistake in design.

That's my impression. It sounds like you are embracing this as an opportunity to "blame" Festool. Odd word choice, but anyway...

I think most of us realize that the plastic could be more robust. Festool is not some evil empire. It is a collection of good people committed to the singular goal of building the best tools.

I guess you can feel free to scream it from the roof tops, but conserve some energy. Its not exactly a newsflash discovery.

And, it does get to the point of clogging up the stream of threads on the forum when the same critique is stated repetitively. Sometimes, the argument can be perceived as losing merit when it appears to be more emotional than constructive.

It is fashionable sometimes, and a bit of a thrill, to find the "chink in the armor", but I think everyone heard it twice the first time.

Taking an "I'll show you" approach isn't always the best way. Anyone can point out a problem. Finding a solution is more of an art. In this case, the solution is pretty simple. It may just take a minute before the next generation of CT's rolls out. Meanwhile, if plywood works best for you, plywood it all day long and use it.

Just my opinion...as you were.

When a thread has 113 posts and 39 of them are by the same person complaining about the same thing...my goodness, it would be difficult not to find ones self engaged in discussion with said member.

Also, can someone pull up Peter's tutorial on how to use thumbnail pics in posts? This thread could be reduced to 2 pages.

It's just inefficient.

EDIT> fixed quote box.

The thing is though, they're 39 posts of valid comments.

Plus I prefer the full sized photos, clicking on the thumbnails becomes tiresome. ;)

I don't think Festool is an evil empire.

I love festool I own a lot of festool stuff.  I have always had good service from Festool and I reward them by getting them more customers.  I can 100% say some of the lads I have worked with would NOT have bought a festool item many years ago.
I had to work with them for days and get them to use my tools for them to even think about the tools because cost was always a factor.    I was ''selling'' enough that the dealer I was recommending them to buy from  decided to offer me money/credit if I kept going as I was acting as a rep in my area.

It takes no energy doing what I am doing and its no thrill to me.

Had I not presisted others wouldn't have chipped in.

Not saying its new flash but I do believe its an underestimated problem. This helps high light it.

I would love to come up with a solution and festool do it.

Maybe others can come up with new attachments which can be screwed on instead of my basic piece of plywood.

Maybe even an an aftermarket hose carriage.

Poor choice of words on my part. It is not the discussion, it is the part that appears to headed down a personal road on the back and forth.

I'm getting out of here before I get banned for not complaining about the problem! What kind of bizarro world has this become? And there is scuttlebutt that Shane may be turning in his badge and gun soon.
