Customizing the MFT3 to use CMS modules

Not sure if this is an appropriate question to ask as it deals with combining different Festool components to save money (at least that's the theory) and I'm sure Festool would want me to buy all the individual items separate. But here goes:

I am looking at buying an MFT3 but also want a CMS for routing and sawing. However, it seems to me that if you buy / cut a separate top for the MFT3 then cut out a hole that a CMS module fits in, you could use the MFT as a TRULY multifunctional table, right ? Which then also gives you a bigger routing / sawing table aswell...

If this is possible, doe the CMS accessories like slide and extensions fit the MFT3?

Hi Dutchie!

The CMS plates will fit if you cut the right holes and make support and lockdowns for it.
But the other CMS parts like sliding table and extension tables will not fit.
The rails of the MFT is different then the ones of the CMS tables.

What will fit is a 2 leg extension table: MFT/3-VL (499516).
In this table all the CMS modules will fit and the sliding table will also fit because of 2 special brackets on the side of the table.
I use it myself like this and it works very good although a little bigger then the MFT but not much.

Hey neeleman,

Not Dutch, English but now live in the Netherlands  :)

OK, solution looks good and I guess works well? Does the extra room on the MFT3 become usable / accessible? Or does the MFT3 just act as something to hang the extension from?

Ahh, looking at the pictures again, I think I answered my own question, the MFT/3 cannot be used to saw / route larger pieces with the fence fitted, right?

No you're right about that.
When using the circular saw module you can make your own fence because the table has enough room.
But when routing there's no benefit of the MFT/3 table because it's turned to the wrong side. Only the sliding table will be of benefit.

You can use the angle stop (protractor w/ fence) that comes with the MFT and CMS as a fence. Just mount it to the MFT and you have a very large cutting width. Some folks buy the fence for the prescio CS 70 on the MFT.
