Cutting narrow pieces quickly with the MFT/3.

I was looking for a way to level two MFT3’s joined together when I happened on Jerry Work’s “Advanced Cutting and Routing Techniques”.  I didn’t find what I was looking for but I discovered something far more valuable, at least to me.  Maybe I'm the only one that didn't know this, but I thought I'd share it anyway.

For years I have been struggling to cut narrow pieces on the MFT/3.  I’d have to build up a backstop to support the rail and position the piece.  No More!

Jerry uses the MFS with the MFT.  It’s brilliant for repeated cuts of narrow stock.  Simply secure and MFS extrusion to the table with clamps.  Square it with dogs.  Put your stock against it, and slide the guide rail back and forth to the desired mark on the stock.

Now if I can just figure out how to level two MFT/3’ and ca CMS/VL table.  Btw.  I finally ditched the CMS fence for an Incra Wonder Fence.  I wonder why I waited so long.

Can't you achieve the same thing with a wooden plank and measuring tape? What am I missing?

Yes.
You'll need a plank or plywood wider than the guide rail plus extending to a hole position for clamping.
The MFS is easy to square and it fits underneath the guide rail.  This isn't the sole reason to buy the MFS, it's an additional use from being a great router guide.  It's one of those items that you didn't know how useful it is (routing) until you have one.

Luke!!

Glad to see you bit the bullet and got the Incra setup. Love mine and I never take it off the plate. You coming to Indy in a few weeks?  Would love to catch up then!

Cheers. Bryan.

It was previously reported and confirmed here by FESTOOL that they have discontinued distributing the MFS here in NA.  There still may be some in the pipeline or at dealers.

Headaches?

Fortunately I have a couple of complete MFS systems -- one 400 and one 700 and I have a couple of 1000 profiles. But, it is a shame that they discontinued the accessory because it is such a great accessory when you put it through its full set of paces - it is a prblem solver.

For example, I often use mine to guide my jigsaw for notched cut outs. Fence on one side and a stop on the front. Works perfectly. Maybe if enough people squawk Festool USA will bring it back.

I bought the 400 as a starter system.  Because that's all I could afford at the time. Now I want to purchase 700 or 1000 extensions and I can't get them.  I need them.

It's one thing to not bring a European product to the US.  But to discontinue selling a system that folks bought.... Unconscionable.  Yet sell it in Europe!!!

There is a company from the UK that will ship to the USA.  I forgot to bookmark the page, but I believe it is in the thread about it being discontinued.  If I find I will post.

Anthony Z, developed a jig to do narrow rips using the TS saws and MFT.  I tried to tag him, but couldn't find his username, he might have changed it.

My prediction, they will bring back imperial MFS's to NA.  You heard it here first.  But don't hold your breath.  :)

Trend makes functionally the same jig as FMS.

I'm guessing Festool clamps won't fit

Nope, but some small weld nuts (T-slot nuts) might.
