I am going to change the thrust of this message a little. Looks like the Kapex handles it fine with the standard blade.
For those of you who have not seen this relatively new product -- referred to by some as "vinyl planks" -- how is it working out for the homeowner? It looks like a great product for basements. Some of the vinyl is 1/4 inch or so thick, others much thinner. I have seen some product with cork on back to create a give softer walk. There were a number of vendors showing it at the week-long homeshow last winter. The vinyl quality ranged from "good" on cheaper product to "approaching great" on some of the more expensive product. Range in price if I recall was as cheap as $1 per sq ft up to $4 for the better ones.
Carpet and wood are lousy products on basement floors. There is no doubt you are gong to have a flood problem, just a matter of when. High water tables, broken sumps, frozen discharge pipes and in one case for me a broken garden hose and another case a plugged gutter causing a window well to flood during a horrendous downpour.
Cleanup after flood. Talking to people who had experience with this product coming through the booths ranged from --- suck up the water, mop it, and leave it and the water underneath went down into the concrete under the floor with no long term smell, musty problems.
Ran into one person who said the actually took the floor apart in the flooded area and dried things out and then reinstalled. The thicker products look like they would actually work very well doing this. That seems like a lot of work, but entirely feasible.
Does anyone have any experience with "vinyl" blanks that contain no wood product that they could share?
