I noticed some recent news that in the fall of 2019 Milwaukee will release as part of its M12 lineup an installation driver/drill.  This tool looks very similar to the CXS.  It has the same overall shape as well as attachments.  At a price of approx $179 for the bare tool, it will provide some competition.

I also note it includes as part of its package an offset chuck.  It makes me wonder why Festool does not offer the offset chuck as part of its CXS\TXS tools.  When Bosch offered its competition to the CXS\TXS, it also included an offset chuck.

An offset chuck is very useful in drawer and cabinet installation/construction.  The larger torque 15V or 18V is large and awkward in this type of an application. The smaller CXS\TXS is easier to handle.  Hopefully Festool will eventually offer an offset chuck to work in CXS\TXS drivers.

Not having an offset Chuck was the only drawback to the CXS I saw.
Here's hoping Festool decided to fix that.

I do like Milwaukee tools and an impressed by what they are putting out.

Hi!

This was discussed multiple times over the years.

Festool USA chimed in on it here, for example:http://festoolownersgroup.com/festool-tool-reviews/a-few-thoughts-on-the-cxs-(time-for-me-to-eat-crow)/msg155947/#msg155947

And then there was this thread, too. For example:http://festoolownersgroup.com/festo...-vs-bosch-12v-flexiclick/msg528548/#msg528548

Have you used the CXS?

The reason I ask this is because I have used mine plenty. And to this day I can't see any need for an offset chuck for it. The way it is build, and the way the angle attachment is build (it has a highly compact head) you can reach any if not all fasteners with it - whereas the Bosch, Milwaukee, (...) are itself, and this holds also true for their corresponding angle chucks, not nearly as compact as the CXS (+angle chuck).

I stand by what I wrote back in the day, it's not needed by design - and I'm also pretty sure an offset chuck would not get a CXS closer to any fastener.

Kind regards,
Oliver

The new Milwaukee Installers Drill is out in another week or so.  It looks an awful lot like the CXS.  About the only difference besides the lower price is an offset chuck, a brushless motor and up to 300 ft. lbs. of torque.
I'll say as a post script that my CXS is my favorite and most used Festool.  But it's nice to see another option.

300 ft lbs of torque!!  [eek]. That’ll make changing a tire a snap!
(we know what you meant). :)

I love my Festool drills as they are so much smoother than other drills.  I've been using cordless tools since they were first available, the original B&D industrial back in the late 70s.  I've used those, Freud, went to Makita, tried the 12 Bosch (bought for my daughter because of the compact size), bought the 12v Milwaukee when they came out to compliment my Makita 14s.  When my 14v Maks bellied up I went to 18v Milwaukee.  I have extensive collection of 12 and 18v Milwaukees but also have 18v Feins, and my Festools.  I love my CXS but am planning on buying the new bare tool 12v Milwaukee with the interchangeable chucks when they go on sale during the holidays.

I picked up mine because I am already on the 12v Milwaukee platform.  Its a well build tool but not as smooth as the CXS which I love and use all the time. Considering the price difference, it is a good addition to my toolbox.  I would prefer the FWD/REV switch by the trigger.  If you hold the drill with your index finger outstretched and your middle finger on the trigger, it is pretty easy to access the FWD/REV switch using your thumb.

I noticed some other post mentioning a Milwaukee promotion where they give you a free 6ah battery with a purchase of this tool.  HD originally had the deal online only.  This deal is now available in the HD stores in the states.

No sooner did I upload this post and my wife asked me to install a hanger for her stick vacuum.  Needed the offset adapter to install it.  Timing is everything.  Hopefully, Festool will soon offer an offset adapter for the CXS/TXS.

Festool will never offer an offset chuck for the CXS/TXS.  They don't think it's needed.

They can't even be bothered to upgrade the drills to a brushless motor.  Another chuck is a pipedream.
