This is my first time posting here, but I love seeing the projects other folks are building and reading the stories that go with them. I have learned a lot from those posts.

I'm a member of the PTO at my daughter's school and we collect Box Tops for Education. The woman that heads up that part of the PTO wanted something to collect them that students would notice. She came up with a mailbox and asked if I would build it. I was excited about the challenge.

The sides are 3/8" particle board a friend gave me, the inner frame is pine connected with dominos and screws. The rest includes poplar and a few pieces of hickory. The hinges and latches are polished brass. By now I hope you are thinking that it's a strange mess of materials - all of it is from my scraps pile and 10-year-old left over hardware. The only purchased piece is the $.99 pull handle on the front hatch. It was a fun project that I will be passing on to another PTO member so she can paint it blue. I'll be making a decal for the front of it too - that's my day job, teaching graphic design.

Clever! Be sure to post pictures after it is painted.

Another member of my daughter's PTO painted and delivered the mailbox last night. I added the decal I designed. I have to admit that when I redrew the Box Tops for Education logo I updated it a little and fixed some type spacing (kerning). Sorry about the poor-quality cell phone pic. Now we will see how it stands up to the kids abusing it.

LOL, ya I would probably done the same.
Great looking project, and it looks like the "painter" did a great job too!
