I'm attempting to replace my pocket hole joinery with dominos, and I'm a newbie.  Measuring the depth of mortises cut with DF 500 and comparing to settings doesn't match, ie, a setting of 12 should result in a depth of 6mm, but results in a depth of approx 3; setting of 15 gives approx 6; 20 does give 10; 25 gives approx 15; 28 gives 19.  Has anyone else noticed same? Or ... is this some newbie mistake?

Need all the help I can get.

Thanks, DrD

Roger that; those cuts were with the 4mm cutter.  Now, this is really ignorant on my part, but where would I have found that tidbit of info?
Thanks much!  I was getting more than a little concerned.
I'm fastening a 19mm table top to 12mm side and thought the 4mm would be best following the 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 suggestion.

The 4mm cutter was released after the other cutters, so the 10mm subtraction tends to be overlooked. Also, be aware that you can't use the deeper mortise settings on some cutters as the wide part of the shank hits to the edge of the wood before the cutter is fully plunged. I think this applies to the 4, 5 and 6mm cutters off the top of my head.

Thanks!

Ya know, in my old age I should remember that nothing is so simple as it may seem.  Love the FOG as I really do want to get the fun, enjoyment and productivity out of my Festool investmenst.  I'm not a professional, just a retired food scientist who loves the hobby of working with wood.  Thanks again for the insights.

This information is in the manual. How do I know?

Because I also made this error, and then decided to 'Read The Manual'.

Enjoy.

I found that out the hard way [wink]
