I just wrapped this up yesterday.  It's for my wife and replaces the old, cumbersome, tired, plain-looking computer desk we bought from Cost Plus years ago.  She wanted a "shabby-shic" look for the finish so this is what I came up iwth.  She's happy which means I'm happy.

hi there . kreg will be deligted with the bead board [eek].
very well exicuted.
this is not my cup of tea as i dont like the distressed look, but it takes a lot of skill to make something look so unloved.
also i think the mouldings are a bit large for my liking.
once the boss is happy , everybody else is happy [wink]
nice job though

I had to go with a 6" base in order to get the desk up to the height I needed.  The middle portion of the desk and one of the drawer banks are boxes that I had left over from a previous job.  I used them on this but they are only 24" tall so I had to do something to bring them up to roughly 30", hence the 6" base.

Russell,

One of the many things that I admire about your work is that I sense you bringing in influences of the architectural styles native to your area and melding them into what the customer thinks that they want.  This piece is a perfect example.  Well done!

You said that this a desk also.  Is the center upmost section a pull out work surface that will hold a netbook / laptop, or is it a swoop by, look at the laptop on the top surface, type something quick and dash off style of desk?

Great job!

Peter

Thanks Peter.  The upper middle houses a pullout keyboard tray.  The two doors below that house the cpu, some baskets we picked up at IKEA, and the main speaker.  The two lower drawers in the drawer banks are for files.  I used a gel stain from General for the top and I'm sold.  Not only did it do well in providing uniform color but I was really pleased with the shade (Java) that I went with.

Russell,

Thanks for clarifying.  I know that you are a teacher, but I could see you and Jesse collaborating on regional furniture.

You got skills dude!  I admit I am jealous.  [eek]

Peter

That's some nice work there.  The distressed look is not my cup of tea either but i can see its appeal in the right surroundings.  What is the top made of ?  I presume you have plenty of ventilation inside for the pooter.  Any pics of the inside ?

Woodguy.
