This is a desk I built for my sister-in-law a few years back. It is made from solid Bubinga and weighed in at a hefty 560 pounds when completed!

Fantastic.  As a bonus, this might also be the perfect emergency earthquake or tornado shelter.

Wow.  inspiring work.  Love the design with the top of the desk "floating" and the arches in between the two drawer bases.

Very nice.

Awesome looking desk!  I especially like the counterpoint between the organic look of the live edge slab and the finished cabinets below.  Thank you for sharing!

geez...i just looked at this again, I totally missed how freakin amazing this thing is!  I liked it before, now I LOVE IT!!!!

Very nice indeed Jericho! What was your choice of finish?  I have some bubinga myself that I'm working up, but nervous about what to do once I've turned it into something.

It's hard to go wrong with Kem Aqua Plus clear...it's uv stabile, available in water bourne, exceeds KCMA standards and easy to apply.  The only issue is it's special order from Sherwin Williams and hard to get in less than 5 gal...Enduro var is a similar but ambering

Looks awesome. I just had a customer commission me for a mantel made out of solid bubinga but unfortunately they want it stained black...Don't ask me why

That's just not right, why not use maple or cherry?

Thank you for all of the kind responses! It is actually finished with General Finishes "Arm-R-Seal" satin oil & urethane blend! It is a wonderful polyurethane finish that stands up well to use and abuse!

Your right about the Arm-R-Seal being a great product and I have used it for table tops, desk tops, etc.  Actually it is not a polyurethane but a urethane varnish the distinction being the amount of non-cooked oils.  The varnish will dry harder but won't soak into the wood like the oil (or polyurethane) finish will.  I use both products and each has it's strengths and for a finish that will need to be repaired a lot, Minwax Wipe-On Poly is excellent.
