I have a df 700 eq with the seneca adaptor. I installed the 5mm bit but it seems I can't set my depth to half of the domino length with the preset depths, what am I doing wrong.

I don't have the Seneca adapter for the DF700 yet, but if my memory serves me, in one of Paul Marcel's videos on the DF700 or the Seneca adapter, he recommends keeping the sleeve that is shipped on the DF700 and cutting it so that it can be used as a depth stop when using the smaller bits.

I hope I understood your problem correctly and this helps; I just received my DF700 last week and hope to put it to use for the first time later this week building some doors.

Minimum depth will be 15mm without using a shim as suggested above. I use 1/2" pvc cut to different lengths to limit the plunge depth less than 15 mm. Mark the shim(s) with a sharpie and keep it in the systainer. Also, if memory serves, the 5x30mm domino is actually 5x28mm in actual length but you want to use th 30 mm overall length for glue allowance.

If you would rather buy spacers instead of make them google Traxxas 3769. Includes 4 pairs of spacers 1,2,3, and 4mm thick. About $4 at a major internet retailer  [wink].

These would be great in addition to a pvc shim or other type of material, but will not work to decrease the 15mm minimum plunge depth on its own. The purpose of the pvc shim is to restrict the plunge depth by pinching the shim between the  face of the back of the 700 and the front of the unit, bypassing any of the onboard Festool stops. (I am not near my 700 now, but my pvc shim is somewhere near 3" or so long) This pic is an old one, not with the 3" shim but a shorter one I used with Woodpeckers shim set for the Domino 500. Hope the pic will explain this better than my words.

That answers my question Ivanhoe, thanks. I'll have to get some pipe and play with the spacer length. If I am using the 5x30 and want to do half the lenght, should I go deeper for glue to sit or stick with half the length.

If using the 5x30mm domino, plunging at 15mm would be fine as the domino is actually 28mm long giving you an extra 2mm for the glue.
