I just received my new Diablo “Snap-Lock Plus” hole saw and arbor.

It features a quick release hole saw and a quick release pilot drill.

I snapped in the pilot drill.  No problem.

I snapped on the hole saw.  No problem.

I snapped off the hole saw.  No problem.

I attempted to release the pilot drill.  Not possible.

I’ve watched 4 videos so far and no clue how to release the drill bit.

Here’s one (about 3 minutes):

Any ideas?  Nothing feels jammed.

Problem resolved.

I needed a pair of pliers to pull out the bit.

After a few tries, it is starting to loosen up.

Neat design.  I like the quick change and the carbide saw.

The quick release on the drill bit is gradually releasing easier.

The carbide tipped saw (also Freud) cuts amazingly fast, and probably because the tiny carbide nuggets are wider than the steel in the tiny drum that they are mounted on, the scrap falls out easily.

I would note that when I tried it without the pilot bit, and mounted in my drill press, I had to start the feed very slowly until a groove was established to help guide the saw.  Otherwise it shook uncontrollably.

Once that stabilizing groove is established, progress was very fast (compared to the bimetallic saw blades I had been using.

The quick release mandrel came with two adapters so I can continue to use my old hole saws with the new quick release.  (Though those old saws will eventually be replaced by carbide tipped ones, now that I have tested it.)
