just a quick post, i finally got round to finishing my organization project.

including my labour, the cost came in probably 1/2 the cost of the festool unit. it looks good and works for me.

it took me a bit of time to come up with the drawers, as the new SYS-AZ were not available yet, i decided to come up with a drawer using powdercoated angle and 16mm melamine.

Wow, thanks for sharing!  Those look great!  I like the way you did the drawers.  That's really unique.  Are they steel or aluminum?

they are aluminium. 50x25x1.6mm. The lengths are 6.5m long and come pre powdercoated.

i then looked into how the best way to make them would be, and I worked out that i could notch out the bottom of the angle and slightly score the back side of the face whilst doing so.

I ended  up heating the face powdercoat with a heatgun to make the powdercoat a little flexible when i bend the corner into shape, thus stopping the powdercoat from cracking.

i then fixed the aluminium U shape to a melamine base and back, very much like what you would do with a Blum Metabox drawer system, and then i fixed the full extension runners off to the outside of the completed unit.

you can see the score marks left from the Sliding Compund Mitre Saw in this picture
they make folding the U shape very easy, actually alot easier than i was expecting.

Pitto,
Thanks for explaining the drawer process.  That must have taken quite a bit of thought and planning to engineer, but the result looks great.  It's nice that you were able to get the powdercoated stock.  It looks like you cut enough strips to make 2 more sysports.  Lots of room for expansion!
