Do I really need a Kapex?!

Hi Brice,

31" deep? The specs said 19.6" (500 mm). No? OK, are they tricking us, is the base 500 mm?
Please confirm, this is very important to me.

Thanks

There are nicer tables saws at 3x the price of my unisaw.  Do I need one? No.  The Kapex is around 3x the price of my makita.  Do I need one? No.

Only you can answer the question with respect to needing one.

The number I gave were the total front to back dimensions, from the handle in the front to the very back of the saw. This the amount it will take up in your shop so that is the number I posted. Here's a pic of the Kapex in profile, you'll need about 34" of shop space, again from the front of the handle to the hose in the back.

Brice,

In the picture above I see your sawhelper,

Are the saw helper brackets kapex specific, or are they universal?

I have a saw helper from before the owners.

And whats the blue things for?

Keep out the noise of the big city?

Per,

The K Body clamps are available.  They are made well and have angle iron that fits in the v groove of the Kapex.

Hi,

For the space requirments take a look at Jerry Works new work station. That thread has a link lots of good pics of how KAPEX fits into a shop space.  It looks to me that a good portion of the 31" depth is in just the front handle. That could be placed more out of the way when not in use by swinging it all the way to one side.  In the pics below I show doing this to allow boards on my RAS fence to run past the front of my miter saw. The right of the MS fence goes behind the left of the RAS fence. The RAS fence is in the forground of the pics. It certainly looks to me that the KAPEX  takes up less space behind the saw than most.

Per, need I remind you that it's summer?

Those blue things (and others similar devices of varying colors)
are highly effective at keeping the bugs out of your ears.  ;D

Per, my setup is the old AD&E stand/fences like yours. The brackets are specific to the Kapex. Sawhelper will be selling the brackets separately. And the blue things are so I don't have to hear the phone ring, when I'm working I hate answering the cell.

Seth, you're right the saw can be mitered to 60 degrees to get the most space savings. And I agree the Kapex does take up less space behind than most other saws, just not as much as some people believe. I don't want anyone to get their Kapex in the shop and be disappointed by the size. But trust me, having the Kapex in the shop is worth the space it takes up.
