Do the Festool forstner bits and/or hinge boring router bits work well in MDF?

I was thinking about getting the forstner bit set and the 20mm hinge boring router bit. Will they work well in MDF, or is there a better option?

Thanks,

Daniel

I can't comment on the forstner bits, but I know the 20mm hinge boring bit gives me very clean, crisp holes.

Thanks guys, I'm ordering them tonight! The bigger question is what to go with it: WCR-1000 or LR32 system? I do not "need" either one, but since I'm placing an ordering I might as well get some other things  [big grin]

You might be better off looking for tct cutters for mdf, you will ruin hss ones

I'm wanting to make my own sysports with an MFT style top to go on either side of my Kapex. I assume the standard blade on the TS75 and Kapex would do fine on MDF and baltic birch ply, or do I need something else?

My experience is you shouldn't have any problems for this project.

If in the future you do a lot of work with MDF you might want to invest in a blade that has a triple chip grind.  With all the adhesives and chemicals in the MDF it is very hard, and can be very abrasive, quickly dulling a regular alternating top bevel blade.

If part of your project is to make your own MFT style top and you're looking for other things to throw in the shopping cart "while you're there" then I'd go for the LR32 system (guide rail and accessory set) so you can make the holes at the right spacing and alignment.  And if you don't happen to have a Festool router that's just one more click...
