Does the 36mm hose massively improve dust extraction?

Hi All
I have the ct 26 dust extractor and have used I t with my kapex, of2200 and smaller power tools and was very happy with the dust extraction would adding a 36mm hose make a big difference or is it just a nice luxury to run with the bigger tools? I only ask as I will be picking up a ts75 tomorrow so have a few of the higher Capacity tools and was wondering if I should also pick up the bigger hose at the same time.

I think the dust collection is improved with the 36mm hose, especially on TS55, routers, and the Domino ( although they are all made to be used with the 27 mm hose). I found a third party adapter online that reduces the 36mm to a 27mm end (referenced on a FOG post). On the Domino, routers, and sanders I like must use this adapter. With the ETS125 sander it might be best to use the 27mm but on my other sanders, I still can use the 36mm hose with the CT vac dialed down as low as possible.

The only downside is that the 36mm hose is stiffer and more difficult to manage than the 27 mm, but I still use it most of the time.

I wouldn't call it "massively", but there is a noticeable increase with certain tools. Especially those who generate bigger chips profit, like the planers and the routers.

With saws and smaller tools like sanders the difference is not so noticeable, the 27 mm hose is already very efficient with those. The 36 mm hose doesn't even fit on most smaller tools. I think there might be an improvement with the Kapex, but because I don't have one somebody who has better chime in.

The 36 mm hose does make a significant difference with clean up after the job is done.

The difference is significant with the Kapex, HL 850, OF 1400/2200 using bigger bits.

The 27mm hose is constricting the flow from the CT dust extractors quite a bit. They are designed such that they just "dwell" in a flow restricted situation so you aren't using them to their fullest.

I had a TS75 for a short time, which is why I bought the 36mm hose with the CT collector. For the TS75 I would definitely recommend it. There is a big difference.

The 27mm cross section is 572 square mm while the 36mm cross section is 1017 square mm. There is a lot less airflow restriction with the larger hose.

As Alex wrote, it's not massive but it is noticeable. It is also helpful when doing a workshop clean-up as hand plane shavings and larger chips are less likely to clog the tube.

The biggest improvement I've had is using the 36mm hose with my Leigh Dovetail jig (with dust port attachment).  The 27mm hose just could not keep up with the chips and dust and would clog the outlet of the Leigh jig.  I bough the 36mm hose and have had clear sailing with chip/dust removal.

Amazon has a 5m Bosch hose that I bought recently. It is great out of the box. The price is nice also... $35.00!

It will fit straight the the CT and also has the same basic attachment as the 27mm tool connection. I have a bigger connector when I hook it to my HL 850, TS 75 and sometimes my 1400. The hose is very flexible but is not AS. For chips and such, not a big deal to me.

Good decision as far as I'm concerned.  I ended up with the 36mm hose buying out an erroneously sent vac accesory kit that included it that I ended up buying after reporting to my retailer his shipping dept had sent me stuff I never paid for. 

Glad I did buy it as it overall saves you money getting it in a vac kit if you do need the other bac kit items.  The 36 mm on the TS75 made a very significant difference and since then I bought a Kapex years later and it proved to be another compatibility for performance item for it as well. 

Thinking of getting a short 36mm for the Kapex as has been mentioned many times over is optimal for dust extraction from the Kapex, but that's on a "to do/get" list at best right now.  It does improve the Kapex dust extraction which i am already pleased with using the 36mm in full length.  Never tried the Kapex with the 27mm hose myself...just so you know.

The 36 mm hose has two key advantages over the 27 mm one.

First it allows a greater air flow and that aids dust collection a lot.

Second, the increased internal diameter reduces or stops chips getting caught and building up to form a blockage - if, say, you were routing and taking material out at a high rate then this might happen.

The 36 mm hose is really good when used with the Kapex, the TS saws and the OF1400 and OF2200 routers. I do not have a planer but I imagine it would be good for those as well.

The disadvantage for hand-held tools is the weight of the hose. I use either a bungee or a ceiling hook to support my 36 mm hose when using the routers or TS saws.

For the Kapex it is a good idea to keep the length of 36 mm hose as short as you can to maximise dust collection.

I'm now thinking it may be an idea to get a 5m 36mm hose and cut 1.5m off it buy some adapters and make a short hose for my kapex which will leave me a 3.5m hose for my other tools.

I did exactly that when I bought my Kapex.
