Here's a doll cradle I made for a friend with a new baby.
The cradle material is 3/4 cherry with a 1/4 baltic birch ply bottom. The spindles are maple as are the plugs where the rails attach. Finish is wipe-on poly and wax that is buffed out with my Rotex.
I started the project by making a template out of 1/4" baltic birch ply. The template was cut and sanded smooth using sanders and an oscillating spingle sander. Sides for the cradle were joined with dominos and then rough cut to match the template. I then used the 1010 router with a pattern bit to finish route the edges. Roundover was done with the MFK700 router. Sanding was done with ETS 150/3 starting at 80 up to 240 grit.
The sides were cut and drilled for the spindles on a drill press, then rounded over. The spindles were glued and pressed into place and left to dry overnight. Final assembly was done using screws and plugs that were planed and sanded flush. I put four coats of wipe on poly followed by two coats of paste wax that was buffed between coats.
The blanket pillow and mattress were ordered online.
