Not sure if this is going to be a double post.  I just posted some pix showing some drawers I made using Domino on my blog [http://woodnsoul.blogspot.com  or see below].

It proved to be an easy task.  The alignment was as perfect as I could get from doing it any other way.  Faster than almost any other way to make a quality drawer, IMO.

Perfect timing.  I was just going to ask if anyone has made drawers with the Domi.

Thanks,
PaulD

Paul, I did have to adjust the locating pins and the position gauge, both items on my unit were off a bit and now drawers go together with ease. I am doing through mortises on some drawers just to see the tenons from the side...

Yep!  I like the way they look.  I think this is a good application for the new mahogany tenons and also custom/home made tenons for a cool contrasting look.

I have been surprised at how easy it is to do - one must be careful to make sure of the alignment - clearly an operator issue, IMO.  My alignment pins seemed to be aligned perfectly, so I'm not sure what the issues are there...

One of the things I like is that I used both 1/2" and 3/4" for the sides - perfect fit and alignment. With dovetails, even with a jig, it requires a bit of "futzing" to get just right - not so with Domino - a real "no-brainer" fit [perfect for me :D].

Ted,

Please post pics.

Thanks

Dave

"no-brainer" is always good for me.  :D

I haven't used my Domino on a project yet but the test joints I made seemed to be spot on so maybe I got lucky and don't need to adjust.  However, I will double check before I start on the drawers.

BTW, has anyone used Basswood for drawers?  I have a bunch of 1/2" boards that are perfectly sized for the drawers I need.  They'd be side hung with wooden guides.

Thanks,
PaulD

Clint,

you said "new mahogony tenons" above.  Is Festool offering these or are they homemade?  I haven't seen them anywhere if they are a commercial offering

Jason-

They aren't here yet.  One can, however, make a bunch of one's own pretty easily.  And I suppose that will be what we do until they are available here.

It is my understanding that they will be here in the not too distant future.  I'm sure Bob M. or one of the other FesTool retailers would have some idea of when we may see them.

Has anyone found a source of appropriately radiused router bits for making custom species Dominoes?

Not me.

I just file a little off and they seem to fit pretty well.  Using the router seems like a lot of work for not much benefit - of course, others may feel very differently.  And so might I if I was doing 100 or more... ;D

Dave, A few pics of some of my quick and simple shop drawers:

Thanks Ted.  Good looking drawers!  I think it's domi-drawers for me for many cases from now on.

Clint, Brice

Thanks for the info.  I am making my very first piece of furniture (and using the domino to do it); A mahogany night stand.  Being that I am a novice, I made a slight error when not resetting the fence properly.  This of course led to a mortise in the wrong place.

I therefore had to fix it or waste a signficant chunk of African Mohogany, so I did what any good woodworker would do.  I improvised, overcame, and adapted and filed a piece of scrap down to fit.  It was very time consuming, but the fix worked.

From a pure aesthetic point of view, I would like to see the tenons in a variety of species.

Clint have you tried first to rebate the sides in, then doing the Domi  ;D

They look really neat. I was skeptical of what the finished product would look like, but I find it appealing & a contrasting wood would be even more eye catching.

Also like Tezzers idea of a rebate for some additional strength.
