DomiDrawers

Dave, they are just the standard Festool 5mm.

The drawer front is 24mm and sides are 15mm.

The thickness of the drawer face (after rebate) is 3mm, the space between that and the edge of the domi is 4mm and Domi is 5mm.

That combination gives it a plesant look.  :)

Nice work Teezer. I am making some dominos from some blood wood and then using them with white oak drawers. I think they will look nice in the vanity cabinet I am working on...

Wow ;) that would look sensational. Any progress pics of the cupboard you would like to share with us  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Its bare bones right now, but as it progresses I will post some pics up. I am using ash, adler, white oak and some poplar so its gonna stand out in this large bathroom.

Lignum, I am Tooljunkieyank on your Woodworkers forum and I want to thank you for all your insight on the Domino. Without all your experience on this new tool I would most likely not have purchased it when it first came out here in the US. You sold me and taught me a great deal even before I got her in my hands, thanx again...

No worries Ted ;D Always keen to learn from others and also help others when i can ;)

Like this one  :)

Yup!  but only on a couple of practice drawers.  I haven't had time to do a really nice rebate like yours though.  I will on the kitchen cabinets coming up - just for fun!

I truly like the way yours look!

I really love Domino - making DomiDrawers is a hoot - fast too!  And like someone else said, they should pretty much last forever!

I made a slight error when not resetting the fence properly.  This of course led to a mortise in the wrong place.

Woodworking is merely solving one series of problems after another.  Sounds like you did a good job!  Just don't tell anyone  ;D

Ted, Ted, Ted..

Geez!  You are setting the bar way high already!!!  What are we gonna do tomorrow???

Sounds totally awesome!!  You must post pix!

Tezzer,

I haven't yet had any occasion to make any drawers since you first posted about domidrawers on the Ubeaut forum. But I would like a bit more detail on the process. Am I right in thinking that you glue the drawer sides into the rebates in the drawer front before milling the mortises for the dominoes? Others have talked of the need to calibrate the index pins precisely for this task, but it seems to me that you could simply use center lines marked on the drawer front to position the machine to mill the mortises.

Got it in one :) I rebate and glue up. Only need them in the clamps for 5 or 10 minutes just it to grab good enough to carefully work on.

Then is just a matter of working out your prefered spacing and depth of Domi and plunge away.

I tried some through mortises with 12mm BB after the joint is glued and the Domino kinda rounded the mortise a bit, kinda oval in shape. I bet it was too deep for the 5mm bit to go on the deepest setting to cut.

I have to admit on the 12mm BB the pins did cause me a bit of trouble when trying to align my marks since I was working with 4" height and 3, 5mm domis per joint.

I tried some half laps last night on 2x4s with 8x40mm domis and what a joint...

I will post them up later tonight.

Teezer, have you used any pocket holes along with your domis on any work yet. I know the tenons are very tight and I like them that way and I have yet to use the clearence adjustment for cutting the mortices. But I have used the pocket holes on a few items just to not have to use any clamps for glueing...

Pocket holes... lol...Perish the thought  ;D ( I gave mine away to Haveno on the Aussie forum 2 weeks after getting my beloved Dominatrix ;) )

Domi joins are to good and grab with clamp/glue so quick pocket holes are a waste of time
