Domino 500 compare pins to paddles?

I was told the same as Peter, plus they had some issues with users getting glue on the pins.

I have a 500 with pins and a 500 with paddles. I prefer the pins for some operations. All 3 of my Dominos have been matched (I have a 700 also).

To me the greatest improvement to the Domino was the addition of the stops on the vertical support base.

Can't understand how you would get glue on the pins, why would you be trying to cut a mortise in an edge with glue on? Am I missing something  [blink]

I know this is an old thread but I am trying to lock the @#$& paddles on my DF500 back as they are interfering with alignment of adjacent mortises. My DF700 is the old style with pins. I don't use the DF500 as much and I have searched through the PDF copy of the manual and here on the Forum but have not found the answer.

Anyone got a quick answer? I know this is probably so simple but I have never had to do it before and not coming up with anything when I search on "locking paddles" or "lock up paddles".

Per the Supplemental Manual page 11:

"The edge stop dogs can be locked in the retracted position when not needed. Refer to page 12 for more information. (The locating pins cannot be locked in the retracted position.)"

There is a small set-screw that holds them back. It is located on the side of the head right next to the paddle itself. IIRC it takes 1.5 mm hex key.

OK, thanks everyone. I saw those little setscrews in there but didn't realize that's what they were for. I thought there was a way to press them in then slide to lock in a retracted position.

So not so easy to go back and forth. I rarely use them so will lock them back.

Thanks again everyone for the quick response. I DL'd the supplemental manual.
