Domino 700/500

This “discussion” (argument?) - DF500 or XL700/with adaptors -
Seems to have continued for several years now. To each his own. Here’s my experience.
I bought the XL700 and all of the Seneca stuff: Adaptor, Domiplate, Thickness Gauge.
And a full set of cutters for both Domino Joiners - To use with the XL700.

It is a workable solution - Having only one Domino Joiner - Saving $$$.
But... Two years later - Being the inveterate tool collector I am - I also bought the DF500.
In retrospect - Worth every dollar. Shoulda done it sooner.

Since then, I use the DF500 at least 10 times as much as the XL700 -
As most of my projects don’t require the larger dominos.
There’s nothing wrong with the XL700 being adapted to use the DF500 cutters.
But, for me... Having tried it both ways...
Each Joiner just seems to work much better being used for its actual intended function.
If I had it to do over again - I absolutely would buy the DF500 first.
Yeah. I still probably would eventually also buy the XL700.
But, only at the point in a project when the DF500 couldn’t “get the job done” -
Even with multiple/stacked dominos.
And... Ipso facto - Good as it is - I’d skip the Seneca stuff - And its expense.

I know woodworkers who have both the 700 and 500, woodworkers who have the 700 only, and woodworkers (including myself) who have the 500 only. All of them are right, including those who DON'T have a DF at all. We all have different working conditions, wants, needs, and budgets, too, don't we?

Wiser words have not been spoken. Another thing my mentor used to tell me all the time:

"Its all personal preference"

He was right and so are you
