"The fence is the same as the 700. You can upgrade to the 700 fence for around 50$. Gives you the larger window, and the two square cut outs let you see the paddle's. Also the new fence sits all the way down at 45 degrees, so it puts the domino in higher at a forth five. And you can put on the cool sticker!"

The above was posted in another area on FOG. Is this correct? Not having owned the 500 for very long, why would this be a good thing or even worth considering (assuming it's possible).

I too saw that post -  maybe as add on parts, but certainly not complete out of the box! The XL fence assembly is way too huge to fit the 500!

And what does this mean? so it puts the domino in higher at a forth five

Sorry! I should of been more specific. The actual fence where the handle attaches to is interchangeable. Festool calls it the base. Part # 100000348. The one that came with the older 500 has a smaller window and no cutouts for paddles. The new 500 comes with the new style one.

Now I see what you are saying! Looks like mine are both the same style. Had not thought about changing out the handle though, interesting idea----

Still not sure I  understand. I just bought a 500 so it has pins not paddles. I'm not sure why I would want to change it even if I could given the little I have used it. Any advantages to changing it since the fence is similar to the 700 already?

Your Domino 500 is new? I thought the new models had paddles like mine does, pins were the older version....

Did you buy a used one?  The newer (last few years) ones all have little black paddles for indexing. The 700 has three pins on each side and the older 500's had pins as well. Post a pic of your 500 if you can.
