Some where I ran across a thread on how to do face frames with making pencil marks. Now I can't find it, anyone else know where that thread its at?

Edit, that should have said "without pencil marks"

Do you have the Trim Stop?  It is great for doing rails and stiles.  Or you can mark them - either way works.  I have some pix on my blog as well.

I, too, would prefer to use all tight settings for the mortises to achieve a nice snug fit, but find that even though I have calibrated the glass sight line gauge accurately, when doing a face frame the unit is just a hair off - maybe 1/32+. I am going to experiment next by making the mortise in the ends of the rails set at the tight setting, make the cut, then make the same cut in the style with the setting still at the tight setting but enlarge the cut manually by sliding the Domino ever-so-slightly left and right of the style cut to give some wiggle room but not as much as would result if using the center setting for the mortise cut.

It is too bad the registering pins don't allow their use when cutting narrow 2" rails. That would solve the problem and speed up the work. Here's an idea: construct a small wood block with a hole drilled to accept the registering pin and use that block to move the Domino slightly to permit a cut in the near center of the rail. Then use that same "re-registering" block to make the identical cut on the style. Or, instead of making a wood block, maybe an earth magnet set right to the inside of the registering pin would work.

It's also too bad this site doesn't allow photos as on the SCM site!

Don't know how I got a double post but I want to publicly apologize to Jeff for my negative response to his lament about posting pics. If the Dan's can spend as much time as they did with their pic posting tutorials the least I could have done is steered Jeff to the right place. Sorry, Jeff.

Now I'll spend some time trying to figure out why I double posted. Pride goes before a fall, eh?

Not a problem Greg. My skin's a bit thicker than that.

For a possible solution to the issue raised with this thread, see my thread labeled DOMINO REFINEMENT in the General Discussion area.

Jeff,

I'm not sure where you got this impression, but it's WAY off base.   You've got it backwards.   SCM is far more limited.   SCM won't allow posting links to posts on another forum or links to pictures hosted on another site!   For example, I posted a link to a pic in my FOG member Gallery (click "Gallery" in the tool bar) and they deleted the link in my post!!!

If you are not sure how to use FOG forum, check the Forum Software How-To.   If you are not sure how to post pics, check the sticky post at the top: Photo Tutorial - Taking, Editing, and Posting Forum Images .

Unlike SMC, you have several options to post pics here on FOG - When posting:
- Click "Additional Options" to get the "attach" dialog.
- Post images in your own FOG gallery and reference them in your post.
- Reference images in someone else's FOG gallery in your post.
- Post a link to images in your own gallery in a photo service like SmugMug.
- Post a link to images that host on your own site.
- Post a link to forum posts in another forum.

For example, the Kapex pic immediately below resides in my members' gallery and is referenced here.   The Festainer pic is Les Spencer's gallery.   The one below that is posted on some other site.   The ones below that are two attached images.

Regards,

Dan.

p.s. Except for the Festainer pic, ALL of these images are larger than the largest size allowed by SMC (107.8 KB).

Dan, is there a difference between "- Post a link" to a photo already having a url on a server somewhere and "attached images"? Don't "attached images" have to already have url addresses too?

Micheal,

No.  Attached images are just uploaded from your system; no URL.  That said...

I think it's better to reference an image because you can include them inline with text in multiple posts and because they take up less server space.    For a one-off, quickie, I "attach".  Most of the time, I upload to my gallery and then reference.

Regards,

Dan.
