On the first use of my Domino DF 500, after a dozen or so mortises it failed to start or, after many switching attempts, started but quit in the middle of a cut. I sent it back to Festool and they "fixed it"-- they checked boxes for alignment (nothing to do with the problem), calibration to specs (no idea which specs), and did an electrical safety test (tool got warm and had an electrical smell--if it passed this test, I don't know how.). They sent the tool back a couple of months ago and I had a chance to use it again today.  I was feeling pretty happy with the first 12 mortises, then on the 13th it would not start, finally did, but quit 1/4" deep. The repair people apparently did not look at the switch or motor. Not impressed. I'm asking for a replacement and hope their quality control has figured this out.

Sorry to hear about your issues but rest assured Festool will make it right.
As far as the "checked boxes" the "calibration specs" and the "electrical safety test", these are just boiler plate items that are part of a check list that the tech must look at and determine if it's a pass or a fail. Not unlike bringing your car into your original service dealer and they check off each item including windshield wipers that they need to look at. Better to be too thorough than not thorough enough.

However, after the first Festool service and your recent problems I would also ask for a replacement but that's up to the distributor you purchased it from as the 30 day window has elapsed. If you have a cozy relationship with the distributor you'll probably not have a problem because they do want to fully service their customer.

The repair people not looking at the switch or motor really has no bearing on this issue as it's yet to be determined what the issue really is.  [smile]

I might have read your post wrongly. If the tool was returned a couple of months ago, why didn't you run it through some rigorous tests right away?
