Domino DF 500 Width Settings

Recently bought the 500 and love it.  It seems that the smallest height it will handle is 1/2" unless I am missing something and that the reason for this posting.  Is there a technique used to do thinner than 1/2"?

With the 4mm cutter that would essentially give you only 4mm uncut on either side of the mortise (1/2" = 12.66mm).  Anything less than that and you would be sacrificing the integrity of the piece.  In any case, the fence won't go lower than about 4-5mm from the top of the cutter, and the distance from the base to the middle of the cutter is already 10mm.  The only way you could do a piece thinner than 1/2" would be to elevate it slightly off the worksurface and go at it without the fence being lowered on the Domino.

What were you thinking of doing that's less than 1/2"?

Thanks for your reply.  I really did not have a specific project in mind for less than 1/2" thickness but was just wondering if I could go thinner than that.  Now I know.  I really am impressed with the quality of the Domino and the job it does.  Appreciate your response.

BTW, the 4mm cutter only comes with the domino assortment kit (or can be bought separately on an individual basis).  The machine comes equipped out of the box with the 5mm cutter.
