Domino Gadget for box building.

Ron,

I sent you a PM several days ago, but I'm not sure whether you got it.  If not, please put me down for a Domiplate when you have one available.

David

Hi Ron,

Could you please put me down for 1 Domiplate and let me know when the new batch is ready so I can pay you and give you my address. (i sent you a PM as well in case  that is easier for you

Thanks!

James

Ron, the domiplate came in so handy yesterday for mortising in 3/4" walnut. I was able to quickly switch the domino to a regular offset setting to mortise in the thicker stock.

Perfect result.

Thanks Ron. This project started out as an experiment in using my TS55 to cut really accurate angles and the OF1400 to cut precise grooves for inlay on a piece of 30" by 12" walnut leftover. I also had some birds eye maple leftover from a previous project but not enough to do much with. The result was so pleasing that I decided to use the piece as the top of a small three-shelf bookcase. Once calibrated the TS55 cut more accurate angles than my mitre saw, and even showed me that my big box combo square was way off. I ended up getting a Woodpecker's carpenter's triangle which is a fantastic layout tool.

I hand-planed the walnut where possible, and used the RO125 in the knottier areas. I dovetailed the shelves to give the carcass strength, and dominoed the stiles to the carcass.

Because this bookcase is for my two-year old, I graduated the shelf heights to accommodate children's books. He has loads of small books only 6 inches high and some about 8" high. These will go on the top two shelves. Regular size books can go on the bottom shelf.

Irritatingly, I forgot to cut the rabbet for the back panel before gluing up the sides so I did as much as I could with the router and then had to complete the rest with a chisel where the shelves got in the way.

Thanks Ron, I received mine this last Saturday.  the only problem i have with it is finding the time to use it.  Just got back from a 1 month business trip and I' off later this week for another 45 days to MI.  Hopefully I'll be able to try it out over Christmas

I sent a PM to you, but unsure if you got it. I was also interested in getting one. Let me know what I need to do to get it. Thanks!

Hello,
I'm now on my third batch of Domino plates since I last said I would post here when I had another batch (working through PM requests) I'm now up to Robert Robinson (I just sent you a PM).
I have about a dozen that aren't committed so if you are interested in buying one please send me a PM.  These have the narrow windows and are the same price as before -- $48.00 U.S.  (52.45 outside the U.S.)   Please be sure to include your real name in the body of your PM (helps me better keep track)  You'll need a Paypal account with your correct mailing address -- I print the mailing labels directly from Paypal.
If someone would be so kind, please post a good source for the knobs & screws for those that don't already own Festool clamping elements (with the very under utilized knobs).  [smile]
Regards,
Ron

I ordered the knob and rubber o-rings from Bob Marino and got them very quickly (Thanks, Bob!!!), and stopped by Home Despot to pick up a small pack of 8mm flat washers, two of which I used under the knob to keep the threaded shank from coming through the plate, and negating the need to grind down the threaded shank.

[smile]

Hi Ron,
Just rec'd the domino gadget in the mail today.  Fitted on my domino and tried it out on some plywood scraps (1/2" and 3/4").  Sweeter than maple syrup!!  [big grin] Really an imaginative idea and beautifully rendered.  Many thanks to you for a nice manufacturing job and to PolarSea for the original idea!  Well done you guys.
Denny

I ordered one the other day.  Guess I should go get the Domino now.  [big grin]  Could someone let me know the PNs for any additional items I need to get to work with this.  Thanks

Thanks Denny!  I really enjoy hearing that you like the Domino plate -- that is my real reward.  And YES, "PolarSea" deserves the credit for a really great idea!

From a prior posting:
"Here are the part numbers again. I ordered them through Festool's Customer Service Dept., although I did check my local dealer's availability first. You need 2 x 469620 (Clamping screw) and 2x 200911 (O-ring). The big knob is 487554.
I think I paid around $10 for the parts, and it's all well worth it."  -- You'll need to either file down the length of the 8mm bolt included with the Festool knob OR place a flat washer or two on the stud before you screw it onto the Domino plate.  Try Bob Marino for the parts, I hear great things about his service.

And MavDog, I'm sure that you will like the Domino plate even more once you also have the Festool Domino machine to go along with it.  [smile]

PS - I remember sending your plate out, you'll probably receive it on Tuesday.

Ron, I got mine recently as well. Looks fantastic. Cant wait to use it! not sure when that will be... :( review when the time comes though!

Ron,
Just received the domiplate - thanks for the quick ship!  Won't get a chance to use it just yet.  Looks great though, keep up the great work!

Hello All,
I was just thinking this morning (it hurts  [big grin]).  I'm surprised with all of these Domino plates that I've sent out & are in use I don't think anyone has mentioned what I believe are the two biggest benefits (I was wrong once before though  [smile]). -- With the Domino plate there is no need (obviously) to use the plastic support bracket to register the Domino when cutting mortises on the face edge of the joinery.  The aluminum fence plate is much larger and so registers better.
The other even bigger benefit is that virtually all of the Domino machine weight (when using the Domino plate) is below the center of the cutter so the machine wants to almost automatically nest into it's register place. -- I was just thinking...  [wink]
