Domino in auction: how much would you pay?

I ran into an auction where the remains of a failed company get sold. I can't see/touch the domino, just pictures. It was a construction company, which had a professional woodworking dept. Festools hold their value quite well, is what I read everywhere. What's the max. amount you would pay for such a Domino? (how much % of the list price)?

TIA for your opinion.

Does it come with the domino assortment pack?

How much use did it get?

No domino assortment with it, the amount of use is unknown.
It comes in its systainer.

I've got one in the classified section that is the DF500 set in the systainer. Also comes with the domino asst. systainer full with cutters. Also comes with 4 extra large boxes of dominos. Great price.

at an auction unseen?? 50% retail max..40% would be better  you usualy get to see the stuff your bidding on strange not to..

Pictures are how most auctions are now, because most auctions, 9 out of 10, are internet auctions.

If they guarantee it works and the pictures make it look new then 8o% of retail. I would never sell a Festool for less than 80% unless it was beat. Actually, out of all the Festool I sold none were sold less than 80% of retail, most at 83%.

If I could get a Festool at 40 or 50% and see pictures I would jump on that in 60 seconds. It just is not going to happen and in my opinion unless the tool is beat to crap and 5 years old is unrealistic as well for a Festool. If you can get it at 40 or 50% buy it and fast. I have seen plenty of non working Festools go for 50% of retail.

Anyone have a used Domino for 50% of what they paid, PM me I  will buy it right now.  :)

Thanks. 60-75% was what I was thinking of. Not unrealistic, apparently.

CJ'60, you can't compare American prices on used Festools with Dutch prices. The market here is saturated and expecting 80% on a used Festool here will prove impossible. It seems used Festools are somewhat rare in the States but here they are very easy to get. I guess it's because the brand Festool as a whole is sold a lot more over here.

I know a couple of dealers that will deliver brand new Festools for 80%. If you're a company you can even deduct the 19% VAT from that figure.

If you're a private person here and you sell a brand new unused Festool you can get at most 70% to 75% depending on which model it is. For used Festools in pristine condition you can expect between 50% and 65% and the more it's used the lower the price you can get. I draw my numbers from the experience I got buying and selling Festool machines the last 2 years. I bought and sold quiet a lot of them lately.

The price also depends on the model you're trying to buy or sell. Some are more appreciated or more rare than others. Try to sell an RS300 or a HL850 and you won't get a good price because there are hardly any takers. But tools like the C12, the DTS400, the TS55, the Kapex and the Domino on the other hand will fly out of the door. But because there are so many DTS400's and TS55's offered, you still have to be pretty happy when you get 50% of the new price. The Kapex and the Domino are not so much offered and they go for more.

But I still see most used Dominoes go for 550 to 600 euro max, and that's when the optional systainer with Dominoes is included. I think that's a fair price for a used Domino in good condition considering the stock price of 850. But I've even seen them go for 400 or 450. Not all sellers try to get the most out of it.

You can mostly get tools even cheaper at foreclosure auctions like the one you're talking about. Most of the people who go there are resellers who think about their own profit margin when bidding and are therefor not prepared to go as far as private people who plan on using the tools themselves. But it entirely depends who is there that day.

I think the value of the tool greatly depreciates at the end of it's warranty. Not for the fact that it's a bad tool, it's just because there is some comfort added to the buyer of a used tool that the manufacturer will still back up even if something is wrong with it. I'd probably not pay more than 50% for a "your on your own" tool. If it came with a receipt and I had plenty of time to use it and check it out, I'd be willing to go much more than that. Especially if it was a Festool.

Thank you all for the input, especially Alex for his elaborated answer.
My wife runs a company, the tools are merely used to support that, so the 19% VAT will be deducted.
I will try some local CL-equivalents as well, I'm not in a hurry. However, once decided to buy a Domino, albeit 2nd-handed, the eagerness to hold it becomes almost unbearable ;-)

Look at my 'enhanced' signature! [drooling]

My wife treated me with a late birthday present, and bought me a new DF 500 Q set!
Being able to deduct VAT, the difference between several offers at our local CL, 'Marktplaats', and the bids at the foreclosure auction, we decided that the small difference between a used machine and a no-guarantee, no-Festool-theft-replacement-service one acually did justify to go for a new machine. Even better, I got a free Fein MM like tool from my favorite Festool dealer, Buitelaar in Gouda. Well, its is not Fein, but it will certainly fullfill my needs.

Now I have to hurry up moving my workshop from the ground floor to the attic, and start trying the Domino.
The first project will be a toy for our 10 months old grandson. The next will be an overhead cupboard over the kitchen in my wife's workshop  [wink].

Well Done CJ60!

You will be surprised how much it will change the way you work!!

Very envious of you and the other FOG guys whose wives have bought them Festool presents.

All my wife ever gives me is hot tongue and cold shoulder!! [crying] [crying]

[doh]  A late birthday present.  Why can't my wife think of these things?  Maybe I should show her your post.  If she acts quickly, she wouldn't be that late.
