I am building a sofa frame that will have 8/4 walnut legs joined to either 6/4 or 8/4 x 4" rails. Which Domino size would be most appropriate? I'm assuming there will need to be multiple Dominos (4?) per joint. New Domino DF500 user here.

Sounds like 4 x 10x50 to me...or borrow my boss' DF-700 and do a pair of 14s.

I'm with Jeff on this one. Once you get to 6/4 or thicker range, go with 10mm Dominos, since you are limited to the DF500. At 8/4, it might be worth it to drop down to 8mm and run 2 rows? They are also available in 50mm length.

I’m with JEFFINSGF. Anything less than a 14 is a risk for the joint breaking. I built a takedown king bed using the 700 connector system and it’s still totally solid after 8 years. Sometimes size matters.

Here's a page from the Festool book "Joinery Unmatched The DOMINO system user manual".

This is their suggested corner connection using 14 mm Dominos for tables or bedposts. I can't imagine that it'd be much different for a sofa.  [smile]

It's also interesting that in the same user manual under applications, Festool refers to "Lightweight rack (e.g. chairs) up to 10 mm Dominos."
