Domino XL hits the US...

Perhaps Shane would donate one of the 25 used trial kits to the person that guesses the price within $1.   [unsure]

Everyone who has guessed so far pitch in $300 and the closest guess gets one.  [wink]  [tongue]

You think you would be able to get them test units back from the testers??!! Good luck!!

Yeah, I'm not expecting to get them back. I think they will all take the opportunity to keep them.

I could see it now.  Shane opens a package and sitting there was a note on top of a Domino 500 in the box with assorted 4, 5, and 6 mm dominos, and three mini systainers.  The note reads:

"Shane,

I know that you will find this hard to believe, but after using the Domino XL 700 extensively I decided to wash it before returning it to you.  I had no idea that it would shrink after washing.  After this discovery I tested the same solution on the supplied dominos with the same result.  Whereas I have no further use for the dominos I have enclosed them also.  I think that I might have to have  the solution analyzed because I have found that even systainers can be affected.

Thank you for allowing me to test the tool for such a short time.

Best Regards,

John Smith"

Mine already has a preferred spot on my Festool cart... [cool]

Festool is the devil incarnate. The 700 is obviously an awesome tool, and worse I don't think I'm going to be able to sell off my 500 to finance the 700 because I like having the smaller Dominos too.

So who is going to use this to make window sashes and wooden storm windows?

Most people want to see the tenon all the way through, any issues blowing out the other side of the work piece?

I don't really see the XL as a jobsite tool, which correlates with my, I can get a mortiser and tenoner for about what the XL would cost.

The DF700 is not intended to replace the DF500. It is intended to extend the capabilities beyond what the DF500 could do with only a slight overlap between the two. Neither tool is perfect for everyone. The DF500 is too small for some larger tasks, just as the DF700 is too large for some smaller tasks. It is no different than a comparison between an OF1010 and an OF2200.

Just as you wouldn't want to use a 14mm thick tenon to build a jewelry box, you wouldn't want to use a 4mm tenon to build a staircase.

Edit: Before my mistake snowballs any further, I want to point out that it would appear that my product designation is wrong. The product name would be "Domino XL" and the designator is DF700. I never bothered to look at the label when I referred to it as an "XL700".

absolutely right! router is easy and hard, one complements the other.
500 df for some tasks, XL 700 for others.
Soon it will be used for the manufacture of doors.
from Festool, I have only two Domino.

You gave me a lecture, but no answer to my question.

I don't do windows, but I am planning on using the 700 for some through tenon applications. I'll be milling custom tenon material to match the mortises that the 700 cuts.

Blowout's not an issue. Personally, I would never try to make a through cut without a backer block clamped onto my piece.

Change design, change technology.  Domino is much faster, much easier for loose tenonig. Grab DF, mark lines, cut, then repeat.
I agree that if your design and technology required old fashion tenons Domino is not for that.
The good thing is that you have 30 days for decision.
There are niches for DF-500, DF XL-700, DF XXL-1200, DF XXXL-2500 :)
I used DF-500 for interior doors. 4 years after they are still solid and sound.

Cheers,

Any chance you can elaborate on this, or have some photos? I've been thinking about doing exactly that.

Thanks,
Steve

Ah, excuse me...? That's the price?  [eek]

If so, that is not too bad; all things considered. (price of the DF500)  [blink]

Again, if that is the price..., what would the total be if one were to include title, taxes and tags.?

So if my guess is "10 cases of tuna", does that mean I have to pitch in 4 cases of tuna into the kitty?  [tongue]

By my math it would be 3 cases...  [unsure]
