Domino XL - running hot

Well, I am here with more questions. A few days ago I grabbed a Domino XL. I tried it out tonight, I had to clear some space around a series of tenons on some 8/4 bubinga planks and thought I could fire it up, make about 30 plunges and call it done. I was using the 8mm bit, going 30mm deep. After about 3 minutes running time (personal estimate), the motor turned very hot to the touch. Is this normal and temporary until breakin, or normal and won't go away, or is it not normal?

thanks much,

Assuming that this was happening while you were using dust collection (which also helps cool the motor) I might suggest that you call Festool and talk to one of the service guys.

I am also moving this thread to the Tool Problems area for visibility reasons.

Yep, just got off the phone with Festool. This is normal, and while it will improve some over time, this is where the moving parts are and they get hot. I also looked and see there is a warning stamp right there about parts getting hot.

Yes I was using it with a dust extraction. This is one of those things where you get punished/reminded with chips and dust as soon as you start a cut, so can't miss it.

cheers,
