Hi,

I'm having trouble getting my joints to Line up when I'm using the domino, I always seem to height difference's, I always make sure the surface is cleaned make sure it's firmly on the bed and always domino the same face of each piece of wood. This mainly when I'm joining work tops, just wondered if there was a technique that I needed to knows?

Make sure the Domino base is not on the work piece support surface. You need to make sure your referencing off the fence.

Welcome to the forum.

Just to add to what has already been suggested...

- The plunge speed can make a difference, make sure there's a steady feed rate
- Hold the machine near the power cord when plunging to make sure you're not accidentally introducing movement
- Make sure you're using dust extraction.

Festool UK can also assist you, if you need help.

Check if the fence is parallel to the base.

In this video at about 2:30 mins., Paul Marcel makes the point that to adjust the height of the Domino fence, the right angle fence should be raised otherwise (ocasionally) the Dominos don't align.

I found its a poor design on the domino.  When I first had my domino I couldn't understand sometimes I would get perfect flush joints then other times not no mater how carefull I was untill I started checking and found I was able to lock off the fence out of parrarel to the base.

I just watched Paul's video I never tried his way I'll give it ago.

How I always do it is to have  the domino facing up so the weight of the fence wouldn't be forcing one side down and give the fence a shove on the lever side so it squares up before I tighten.  That alsways seemed to work.

Also found the fence wouldn't lock solid so abit of sand paper to rough the sliding mechanism abit makes it hold its position far better

That's why I said to the OP. Check the fence for parrarel cus I thought its likely that's the problem.

Yeah that makes sense, if you keep the fence up while you lock the other setting the fence stays square/parallel.

Have to watch that one in future  [big grin]

where are you located ? If you're anywhere near Huntingdon maybe I can help you with it.

Hi guys!

I'm having some problems with my Domino too.  [sad]

My fence is absolutely parallel...I mean 100% dead on!

But the domino is twisting! It seems as if the sidewards movement of the oscillating bit is not running parallel to the motor housing.

Do you know if its possible to adjust that? I see 4 torx screws on the "gear box" (sorry I dont know what else to call it). I imagine that these 4 screws can adjust the whole gear box and thereby the angle of the bit movement in proportion to the motor...but I'm not sure!  [unsure]

And the 4 torx screws have center pins...which tells me that I'm not supposed to fiddle with them. For service department only!  [big grin]

Hope you can guide me how to adjust the beast! Or at least tell me that its can be adjusted and that the machine is not worn out!  [scared]

I bought it second hand a year ago...means no guarantee!

EDIT: Okay...you are welcome to call me a dorf !  [embarassed] [embarassed] [embarassed]

I haven't really used the Domino since I bought it so I just checked the tip of the bit which was really sharp. Plunged a few dominos and realized that it was "twisting".

Luckily I woke up and checked the bit again before trying to adjust the gear box as mentioned above!

Now I know what a damaged bit can cause!  [embarassed]

Take a look at that bit.  [eek] How did that happen? What has the previous owner used that bit for! Incredibly it didn't break [blink]

New bit...and no more twisted dominos! [wink]
Kind regards
Henrik
