So, after a couple of months of reading threads, watching videos I got the Domino DF 500, cross stop, trim stop set & the cutters & dominos set (still need the domiplate, I know)  [wink] Without a chance to catch my breath from the thought of putting 500 to use, my dealer hits me with " oh, we've got the xl in the back  (ex-demo) with a full set of new cutters, half systainer of dominos, to go with the dominos already in the kit" it'll come with the 3 year warranty as well! Before I disclose the price he wants, what do you fellow Festoolians think would be a good price, and should I bite the bullet and just get it.
I would use it but prob not as much as the 500.

I would say 10% - 15% off the list based on the sum of the parts.  If it is fairly clean and is more than the 15%, I would say you have a good deal on your hands.

Considering you can get a virginal XL with a systainer full of Domino goodness for c£765 I wouldn't pay anymore than £650 for an ex-demo XL with a half emptied systainer.

Although you do mention it has a full set of cutters, if indeed it has all the cutters available to the XL, this would probably knock the price up somewhat.

He's asking £600.00 which sounds pretty good to me, especially still getting the 3 year warranty! Might see if he'll trim a little more off when I speak to him tomorrow though :)

I don't know about pushing it, that is an excellent deal!

For about 1,015 US, I would say that is a really good deal!

Why would you buy something for 600 quid that you aren't sure you need? I don't think it's much of a saving!

If it is a really good deal, it will probably be gone when you return.

As a carpenter/fitter I have to employ some one with a shop/machinery to make items such as doors, gates etc.... With the XL Domino (along with my other green goodies)I will be able to make these items in my own modest workshop. So really it'll be a new branch of my business. Will have to brush up on my shop joinery though :)

Bargain!

Buy it. Even if you only use it a little you'll be able to sell it down the track and hardly lose a thing.

If you have the funds available and it's not going to hurt you - do it.

Sounds like you're 80% convinced anyway.

Kev, you're probably right about the 80% :) and certainly the resale value will be very good, as all Festool machines are when looked after. Not intending on that option though.
The funds are there (diminishing quickly thanks to the green addiction I've developed) so I think the decision is made then :/

You'll be in the 10 metre high club in no time [wink]

(the height of your stacked Systainers)

To be fair, if the OP was sure in the first place this thread wouldn't exist, hence the point of it. Like most of us on here, we already know we are going to get the tools in question, just looking for a few others to help push us over the edge. Given the versatility of the Domino, I don't feel any remorse in helping with the push.

And besides there is sometimes a fine line between need and want with Festool, although the latter usually turns into the former in a very short time.

Exactly.

We can't advise on people's finances, but I think we're mostly ethical enough to advise against completely redundant purchases and fundamentally bad choices.

Plus let's face it, if you're a craftsman the 700 has the potential to pay for itself in a couple of days in the right situation!

After phoning my dealer numerous times today and eventually getting through at dinner time! To then be told he'd let the domino go :( Gutted, but I've learned a valuable lesson. If a deal comes along Like that, don't think about it, just Buy the thing and think about it later. I've got a tool fair next month so perhaps I'll get a decent deal there ;)
Thanks for all your responses anyway.

I'm going to buy a XL soon and the cheapest I can find is FFX at £645 if you still hanker after one.

Ordered a Domino XL with 8 and 10mm domino assortment and cutters from Anglia Tool Centre last week for £730 [big grin]

Have just cheeked website and price has now changed to £850 [sad]

Yes, I've just got some clamps from ffx, they're pretty good on a lot of items. I'll still get the XL  might just wait till the tool fair next month, unless a project comes up before then. :) thanks

That FFX price is quite good as are the Domino Systainers.

I'd be surprised if a tool fair can beat that. Be careful you don't wait it out a bit more to get a better price to miss this one as well.
