No that isn't a statement, although I guess it could be.

Are there any accepted 'rules of thumb' when working with loose tenons?. I am aware of the rule that the tenon should be 1/3 the thickness of the work piece, but am wondering whether there are any quidelines to follow in terms of spacing of the dominos along the length of the joint.

Somewhere there is a wonderful manual for the Domino by Rick Christopherson.  In it he gives some rules for the horizontal spacing.  If I remember correctly, he suggests that the mortices be separated by at least twice the thickness of the Domino you are using.

Does anyone know where this manual is hiding?

At the time of this writing: Google "Rick Christopherson domino manual" and this will locate a T&Cs page and you can decide whether to agree to the T&Cs and view the manual.

All manuals, and a great list of articles, reviews, etc., are linked in FOG>FESTOOL TOOLS IN GENERAL>REFERENCE LIBRARY>Consolidated List of Links.  Worth checking out.  Everything downloadable is referenced there.
