Drawer construction using dominos

Here's the jig I made for the under-bed storage boxes. I used all scrap wood and a pair of DeStaco clamps.

I decided to use prefabricated drawer sides. They come prefinished, contain a rabbit for the drawer bottom and will be tucked under the bed for storage so no one will ever see them. Just cut them to length.  [smile]

I used a 5 mm cutter.
Adjust the height of the DF 500 fence so that it will place the mortise in the center of the material you're using. Get as close as you can but you don't have to be exact because everything uses the same surface for registration.

Place a drawer side in the jig, flush it up with the end of the jig and then clamp it down.

Hold the DF in a vertical position

Make sure the side of the DF is against the LH oak stop, plunge.

Move the DF over and make sure it is against the RH oak stop, plunge.

This is the result, 2 mortises that will be consistent because your using hard stops for left-right movement and the base of the DF is always registering the same height.

Now to the end mortises.
Place a drawer side in the jig, flush it up with the end of the jig and then clamp it down.

Rest the fence of the DF on top of the material making sure you're against the LH oak stop, plunge.

Move the DF over and make sure it is against the RH oak stop, plunge.

This is the result.

Late to the party, but really slick way of getting consistency for multiple parts. Will definitely be stealing this. Thanks for sharing.
