I recently made a shop cabinet out of Dynasty Birch plywood which I will post when it is all wrapped up, but wanted to do something different for the single drawer that it has.  I ended up “making it up as I went along” and I think the result is really nice!  I took some of my offcuts and “sliced” them all down to 31mm using my Incra LS and table saw.

Glued, them all up… filled some of the larger voids…

After I trimmed and trued up my new panel, I cut a sliding dovetail for the drawer pull… again, I was making this up as I went along.  I had some Tigerwood left over and grabbed a nice piece for this project.

I also used a dovetail bit to route off an edge of the tigerwood in a bowtie fashion.  I sanded it all down nice and smooth and will put a drawer behind it for my CMS cabinet in my shop.

Thanks for looking!

Bryan,
That is really nice.  Well done - it look good and it's a great way to make use of the leftover plywood!

There was another thread here that had a cabinet with sides of a similar look.  The material they used comes in sheets and is called Plexwood.

Thanks for sharing!

Put two coats of satin poly on it and the color in the tigerwood looks awesome. Pic is OK, but I really like the contrast in color, pattern and feel.

That's Bad-A

Jory Brigham does that in some of his furniture consoles.

Love it!

Thanks Luke!

I put another couple coats on and am going to build the drawer tonight.  Every time I look at it, I love the contrast more and more!

I propped it up where it will belong to give it some definition. Can't wait to get a box behind it and promptly fill it with my CMS parts.  More to come on the finished project when it is ... Um... Finished.
