Hi, i made this yesterday for my Festool drawer Systainer.
What do you think about this. I didn't like kaizen foam so I came up with this. I made this on the CNC but, half way the CNC stopped because it lost vacuum. Took my CNC 20 minutes to do. Maybe you guys know an improvement. This was just an experiment. Thanks

[welcome] to the Fog.
I like the simplicity of the idea and glad you had a CNC to do all those holes, that task alone would drive me nuts. [big grin]

A simple, creative idea that could be layered for deeper systainers.  I like it.  What about Domino sized holes?

Nice. That basic grid with dowels could be used to attach solid dividers as well. Just use dowels in the bottom edge of the dividers.

Welcome to FOG!

Very interesting project.  You wrote that your CNC sopped to loss of vacuum.  Were you thru drilling versus leaving a tiny bottom?  Also how porous your material is may be part of the issue.  Drill a bunch of holes and make thinner probably equates to more porous.  Maybe double side tape on the bottom to a sacrificial piece will cure that issue.

Interesting idea.

Possibly use a fully drilled board for test fitting and find a good layout for the tools that should be fitted - and when a setup has stabilized mill one where only the needed holes are? Would make it into a one-trick pony for that tools though.

Downside of this could be the weight, compared to foam. My drawer systainers are mostly on the heavy side already.

Lost vacuum...Next time try pausing the drilling process halfway through and put tape over the already cut holes.

Next time don't use vacuum. Cut from oversized stock and program in tabs when cutting outside contour.
