Hi guys, I have a client who wants me to replace drawer slides on multiple vanities. They want the soft close, pull the drawer in the last inches type. High end client wants good stuff. I don't normally deal with these so I'm looking for recommendations. Sorry for the lousy pic.
Also they want me to replace the hinges on the medicine cabinet doors. 3/4" door with mirror on the outside, heavy. The existing hinges look pretty standard grade. Anyone have a recommendation for better quality for the heavier weight?
Thanks, Markus

Check with who you by hardware from now they will have it. Look at Blum if it is 32mm system.

Check the model number on what they now have installed and check spec. and then weight the door and buy what you need.

There are a few Chicago members here that can lead you to local supplies if you need that.

Cheers,
Steve

Look at BLUM for the hinges.
For the drawer slides,i can't tell in the picture if it's under mount or ball bearring type.(side mount)
If it is side mount, look at Accuride or KV.
I'm not sure if BLUM makes side mount ball bearring glides. But they do have the undermount.

Can you just add two more, of the same hing, for the heaver weight?

Unless you make new drawers you won't be able to use Blum for the slides.  I've had a lot of luck with these slides from Custom Service Hardware.  The closing action isn't as smooth as the Blum's but they're still good for side mounts, especially for the price.

I would have to second the motion on CS Hardware  for the draw slides and hinges. I have used them for many yeasr now as a source for all my cabinet work

For high end client, I would use Blum Tandem slides.  They are much smoother than the less expensive Hettich.  Why chance it for a high end client?

The slides in your first picture are sidemount.  They require the draw to be  1 1/16" narrower than the opening of the cabinet frame.  I will second everyone Else's motion that  Blum makes the best slides.  The problem that you will have is that the draw boxes should be 3/8" smaller than the opening.  There are ways to modify your openings to make them fit  but if your not familiar with the slides it could be a little overwhelming.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'll look into the Blum and Accuride. Anyone try the Indamatic? This client doesn't want to hear about saving a couple bucks for a lesser slide. Yes, they are side mount slides. They actually have a pretty decent smooth action. For whatever reason, probably magazine or friend, client wants soft close now. My main concern here is getting the smoothest, cleanest, nicest action slides. Anything less and I'll be in hot water.
I normally don't take on high end clients like this anymore. I don't have the patience for the hand holding, groveling and BS. I don't even care how much they pay. This is a bit of a special case.
I was thinking of adding two more hinges per medicine cabinet door to deal with the weight issue, probably will.
Thanks, Markus

You may want to look at GRASS hardware. They are about the same as BLUM but it is possible that they make side slide with soft close.

I also like the Blum undermount soft close, they're all I furnish on my installs.  It may pay to think outside of the " Box" ( sorry ) a bit.

If these clients truly want the best, why not upsell them to new drawer boxes with the Blum soft close??  That way you are not confined to the existing box dimensions.

There are plenty of vendors that build boxes to spec, all you have to do is show up and replace the hole kit.

As far as sidemount soft close, I have never found a company that can compare to the blums.  In my opinion if someone says side mount soft close they are junk.

The hinges look like 170* opening which have a lot of moving parts and tend to go out of adjustment. I would switch them out to a 120* hinge. You will need to find out what the drilling pattern is (Grass and Blum are different) and are the hinges full or 1/2 overlay, it may be a mixture of both if this is a 3 door medicine cabinet.
On the drawers, if you go with undermounts, you will need to remake the drawer box. There are sidemounts with softclose which I have not used, but from what I've heard they have a lot of problems and I'm sure you do not want to be laying on your back fiddling with adjustments.
You can not go wrong with Blum slides and hinges, been using them for years.

I agree with Dan.  If these clients want the best then present them with Blum's and upsell them on new boxes.  I've used Grass, Hettich, and a couple of generic brands in the past.  In my experience nothing compares with what Blum offers.
I'll have to respectfully disagree with Bill.  The soft-close side mounts that I linked to in a previous post haven't performed like junk in the past when I've used them.  While the closing action isn't as smooth as Blum they do offer a reasonable alternative to those that don't want to have to replace boxes or modify openings.

Update on this topic. I purchased 16 pair of the Accuride 3832 side mount self closers. Installed a few and knew they wouldn't fly. Had to take them out and re-install the old slides. The client has bottom mount Blum's on the drawers in their dressing room.
The slides themselves weren't too bad overall. Kind of a 'snappy' action though. Not horrible but not great either. If your client isn't used to bottom mount self closers they would probably work. If the client has experienced bottom mount self closers these won't cut it.
Hope that helps anyone on another job.
Markus
