Drawers in the van

So I want to build a drawer cabinet for the van to store hardware, bits, etc. I'm trying to find the best option for a locking drawer slide but cant seem to find anything. Any suggestions?

Ed, do you use these in a van? I just ask as I want to build something for my van and the option of a shallow draw unit would be desirable to me (there won't be a great deal of weight in the draws).

I'm wondering the same thing. Will this type actually stay closed in van while driving?

I found a heavy duty slide with a latch lock but they are  around 100 a pair. That's a bit too pricey for a drawer cabinet in a van!

I was looking through the Paulk trailer build videos and saw he simply made dadoes for the drawers. Although, I don't see how they stay closed in that scenario. Maybe I'm missing something there.

I don't use them in a van, but they do require a decent positive push to unlock them, I doubt very much they would open on their own.

I've built several sysport style roller towers over the years so I can move the tools around the shop and used these slides for the trays...

They are designed for use in IT racks so the have a locked open/locked closed latching system. They've worked well for tool trays on trucks I've kitted out as well. Let me know if you need pictures of the application to save us the rest of the 1000 words to describe the installation

I did a version of the Paulk drawers. I have some large drawers with a lot of weight. The drawers don't come out, they're quick to build, and no locks to slow access. Drawer slides take up more room than the plywood dados, slides cost more, and if the truck is parked on an angle the drawers open. I have 32 drawers in my truck and if I used slides it would have cost a small Festool! I used beeswax on some of my drawers which makes them move very easy, so easy I had to come up with a stop to keep the drawers from flying out. On the drawers that weren't waxed there is no problems with movement.

Here's a few pictures of the one home made sysport I have left in the shop...the others are out on jobs. The slides are positioned so that the unlocking tab sticks out just enough to be able to reach. The ports have locking casters too so they don't shift in the van or trailer in transit.

I have a bunch of drawers ( a la Paulk) in my trailer. I used 1 1/2" aluminum angle installed on a 5° angle for the drawer slides. Super cheap, install quickly and I can rearrange drawers if needed. Worked wonderfully without any stops until I had the bright idea to wax them. Now I have tool spewing drawer rockets!  Now I just bungie the remaining intact drawers every day. Someday, I will remove them all and bore a large hole in the "slides" for a corresponding large pan head screw in the drawer side bottoms. Someday....

I had the same problem in my trailer ...Here is a  way to solve that problem. Works vertically or horizontally., also can be used as a shelf edge.

Brilliant idea. I'm just wondering if it could be combined with the cut outs in the base for the 'feet' on the systainers.
