After misplacing my key again, there must be a better way to store the drill press chuck key. What do you guys/gals use to keep it near by?

I put a nylon cable clamp on one of the screws for the drill press handle, chuck key handle slips in easily.

3/4" rare earth magnet.

Rockler used to make a magnetic retractable chuck key holder, but I can't find it on their website now.

I glued a piece of Velcro to the drill press and wrapped a matching  piece around the key.  I did this 9 years ago and have never lost the key (which, for me, is a bit of a miracle)

I used a magnet as well. Thought of attaching a key caddy to the press and then drilling a hole thru the key but decided for safety reasons not to do this. I have now switched to a key less chuck, and it works great! Still have the magnet and key attached to the drill press for the odd time I remove the key less and install the original chuck.(rarely)

I use to keep it in the work shop...somewhere.

Now wait a minute...I'm sure it was her 5 minutes ago.

Oh no! Not again...!  [sad]

Kind regards
Henrik

Mine are taped to the power cables, usually in a way that makes it difficult to leave the key in the chuck.

Magnets are the way to go.  Stack 2 or 3 together to give you a bit of a standoff from the drill.

I've made a habit of lifting the lid and parking it beside the belts.  I've never lost one since starting that practice, nor accidentally swept one into the trash.

I have my chuck key tied to the handle with a leather shoelace... not lost yet.

Unless the press already has a very high quality keyed chuck I would replace it with a (high quality) keyless chuck.
Several years ago I visited the Jacobs Chuck Company in Clemson, SC.  They demonstrated to us how keyless chucks have something around 20% better holding power than keyed counterparts.  They also made a point that to properly tighten & center a keyed chuck all three (3) holes should be snugged with the wrench.

I always tighten my drill chucks at all three holes.

It is hard to believe that a keyless chuck could have higher holding power.
