So I finally got around to installing a router lift into my table saw this weekend.
I bought the router (Makita 2301), the lift (Sherwood, a really nice one actually), and fence (Incra Wonderfence) from a guy who was clearing his whole shop about a year ago. This set up had never been installed - it was all still packaged and boxed.
I spent along time figuring out where and how I wanted it.
First challenge was the right template for the router plate detent cut. I always planned on using the MFS as a template. I needed a 38mm bit to get the plate corner radius exact. So I got the biggest copy ring I could find for the OF1400 - 40mm. Then got a 38mm bit. Bummer - the 40mm copy ring has a 37.5mm ID so that plan was a bust. [emoji3525]
Next biggest bit I could find was 35mm so gave that a go on an MDF test. Not an exact fit but pretty close - good enough.
So I set up to butcher my lovely Powermatic table saw extension. Did a 1mm cut first to try and minimise laminate chip-out, then took it to a 7.5mm detent for the 6mm router plate.
I was then going to break out the P1CC for the cutout, but realised if I left the MFS clamped in place and swapped the 35mm bit for a 6mm bit I’d get a perfect 14.5mm shoulder for the plate to sit on - worked out beautifully.
Then set about building a dust box from bits of scrap ply. Worked out nicely. Currently plumbed into the MIDI but when I get the right fittings shipped will be connected up to the 2HP 4” extractor system the table saw is connected to.
Finally installed the NVR switch at knee level and all systems go. The dust box works great - used draught excluder foam tape on top and bottom surfaces and getting great airflow through the table.
Next week routing in some T-track and installing the Wonderfence.
