I am considering the purchase of the LS 130. Has anyone used one?? Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Ed

TREMENDOUS SANDER, with so many capabilities.  First and foremost, the sander really simulates hand sanding.  There are numerous profiles from "flat soft" to "large square" pads that are easily interchangeable.  I loaned the shop LS to a column maker and he came back in this morning to purchase.  He had made some 8' cherry pillars/columns, round, and needed to get his GIGANTIC SPIRAL CRAFT machine marks off the surface of the rounded portions of the column.

Needless to say it worked like a champ.  I have used it personally to sand the edges of the long arch of the runners for a rocking chair.

TREMENDOUS SANDER, and in my opinion, greatly unde-rated!

Really kick-ass sander. I used a loaner to sand part of a baseboard profile. Took me five minutes to do the room. Would have taken an hour or two to do by hand. That alone wouldn't justify buying it. It scrapes too though. Depends how much you think you'll use it. It's pretty specific use. Either scraping (I use multimaster or hand otherwise), or sanding profile (although it does have a flat pad, same size as RS400)
My dream package is RO 150, LS 130, RS 400. I'm only two away, one in hand, one on order, one in the future.

Dynamite sander for all kinds of uses from unusual shapes, convex, concave, custom to scraper to linear sander.  The thing to keep in mind is that this sander works differently than most of the others which are Random Orbit.  The LS 130 moves in line, front to back, much like the sanding motion you would use when sanding by hand.  This makes it especially good at fine grits as a finish sander.  With its small pad and square corners it will also get into bigger-than-deltex but smaller-than-5/6"  round pads places.  (I am actually starting to write like an Australian!!!) The dust collection is superb.  Go on and get one and try it for the guaranteed 30 days.  I'll betcha you dont send it back.

I also recommend the LS 130.  I think of it as a down-sized RS2 (Yes, I know the RS2 is orbital, not linear) or other half-sheet sander (I have two: an old variable speed Craftsman that has a level which switches it between RO and straight-line modes, and a Milwaukee orbital), or a small, lightweight and agile sports car compared to any of these larger rectangular pad sanders.  I have used my LS 130 to refinish trim, and to smooth rough edges after sawing plywood where I did not want to risk delamination/splintering from the rotary motion of a Rotex sander, and as the final sanding step after using a rotary or orbital sander.  The LS 130 is unique in having the capability of a user-defined profiled pad from an accessory kit Item # 490780.

Ways to go yet, though. We can still understand you!  ;D

Anyway, the LS130 is a ripper. Got mine just the other day and can already see countless uses for it. It's a great sander to have in your arsenal.

I've been on the fence about the LS130 for a year now.  I know I want it and I know it works, I just don't have enough in the way of projects lined up to justify the purchase.

I'm also interested in it's use as a power scraper....pretty cool.
