I have the OEM size cutter head. I do not know actual power draw, but you do have to reduce cut depth significantly (quarter turn only) or the motor goes into thermal overload after continuous use. However, surface finish and noise reduction are massively improved over the steel choppers. It is worth it if you are in a small shop environment and need something cost effective that produces great results, but I am selling mine off to get an A3-31. I just want something with more power.

The smaller diameter Byrd head has the convenience of installing with all inserts on the head at the cost of a slightly reduced head diameter.  I installed one on my DW735 and measured a 12-14dBA reduction in noise and about a 3%-5% increase in amperage draw when taking the same depth cut on the same wide hard maple board compared to the stock DeWalt knives.  I would expect very close results for the larger diameter Byrd head.  The smaller head requires that you adjust the thickness stop setting wheel left of the infeed and the thickness scale.  Both adjustments are straightforward.  With the smaller diameter head you also end up with a slightly higher minimum thickness.
