East Coast Foggers - Be careful

Oh yes..

Here comes Irene...  Storm drain in front of my house can't keep up with all the rain.  No wind yet, this will be an interesting night.

Good luck, Dave. I hope you don't have to wait days for resumption of power. It's no fun...

Tom

Dave and the rest of you north of me - good luck.

Bigger winds picking up in the DC area now. Definitely feels like a storm has arrived. Rain hasn't been too bad as of yet.

Fatroman, I live just south of Dulles Airport....even with all this wind, they are still letting planes take off (or at least so it sounds).

Rob, I'm close to you and I heard them as well.  I was also surprised to hear them take off.

I'm about 2 miles from Reagan. And I've been surprised that I kept hearing takeoffs for most of the evening. Almost swore there was another one about 15 mins ago, but that's usually outside the restricted time slot there.

Rob, are you the same guy that just had a kitchen article in JLC? If so, nicely done.

Best,
Steve

Hi Steve,  Yes, that was our article in JLC.  Thanks.  That job was in Maryland.

I'll be interested to see what the rainfall totals are as of tomorrow morning.  It seems like it has been several inches so far today.

We're doing a job in the south end of Old Town right now. They have drainage problems with only a summer afternoon t-storm.  I can only imagine what it's going to be like after all of this.  Yikes.

Power just came back on. My street looks like a lake and tornado warnings have been going off like crazy. Got the family sleeping in the living room with the bags by the door ready to leave when needed.  It's extremely calm right now here the second wave should be coming soon.

Rob,

Oh, Old Town is just a flood magnet, no? Where's your job there? There were several blocks in the south end that had real drainage issues, but I thought the city had fixed that.

Used to live over there, but moved to Del Ray about 5 years ago. These are the days I don't mind being a bit farther from the water.

If you've got time for coffee while you are working over this way, send me a PM.

Last I saw was 3" for yesterday at Reagan. Wettest single day in August since '71

Best,
Steve

How's everyone doing out there?

We dodged one here.  Lost power about 21:30 but it came back on by 01:20.  No trees down and the outdoor furniture stayed where it was.

Of course, the last tail of Irene is due here in a couple of hours so more may yet come.

Lost power again, so I get the fun task of scooping water out of the sump pump pit. My street still looks like a lake, but overall my home has no damage. I will post pics when power is restored.  Hope everyone else is ok.

Dave

Good to hear you guys are doing ok.  Irene seemed to be a big puff of smoke my way.  Maybe that's just from my prior experiences with storms, but the results are just a few seconds of power loss, some brown outs, no downed trees no major flooding and no visible damage in my area.  I did hear of power lines down and trees down in other parts of the surrounding area, but I haven't been out driving around to verify that.

Bring on the locusts!

Same here.Nothing major. The worst thing happened was a pipe burst out down the street from me.All over the news!
I have already clean my yard.Just a lot of small branches.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho - It's off to my brother's I go - with two chainsaws in tow.

Peter

In my neighborhood all we lost was power about 21:30 and it returned about 01:20.  That and a bunch of small branches.

My son was partying at his girlfriends house sitting in the garage watching it all happen and a 12" diameter branch fell about 10 feet from him and almost his his girlfriend's father's car.  He lucked out there.

I just tried to use my land lines and both of them are out.  They were okay earlier this morning but not now.  I checked the network bridge in the garage with a 2500 handset I keep handy and the problem is outside.

I called, or tried to call but wound up using the Internet, Verizon and they claim there is nothing wrong with the circuits and the problem is inside my house.  Idiots!!!  I was forced to submit a repair request and the soonest they can come out is Wednesday.  I wonder if they will refund the charges for the days I am without service... Yeah, sure they will... [mad]

Ken,

This storm was strange and I am thankful for that.  My brother lives 20-25 minutes east of me.  Driving to within 2 miles of his house all I saw was damage to trees that would have damage if you sneezed at them.

Once I got to the street that he lives on - it was like a battle zone.  The road is only a mile long, but there were at least 70 trees down.  The street was more green than black with the leaves.

I am going back tomorrow to finish cutting, and will try to get the picture of the tree thru the corner of the house.

Glad you guys are ok and that your end of the world got less than predicted.

Peter

I was watching some videos today of the damage you guys got and some of the damage New York and New Jersey got.  I was definitely lucky, because even people up this way had major damage to their homes, a building in New York actually floated off its foundation into a pier, trees came down and killed a number of people and a Princeton, NJ firefighter was killed doing a water rescue this morning.  Last I heard, 16 people including 2 children killed from Irene.
