Michael, I bet you're wrong I'd guess the vast majority of firearms are now designed for sporting purposes.

Brice, Rick, we tend to stay pretty tightly on subject over here and I don't think you'll find much smiley love here either. That's just how we like it.

I was waiting for you to hit me with that one, I had it coming.  ;D There, I even included a smiley.

Okay,

So which Festool employee is selling Festool Pens and pencils for a $1.00 each?  Making a Killing I tell ya!

Dave,

I have tried these and they are much better than my DeWalt pencils.  Actually I think DeWalt ripped this "pencil" idea off from Festool.  ;) :)

In all seriousness, why do we have to pay for promotional items?  Shouldn't businesses be glad that we will advertise their products free of charge, let alone have to pay for them? Why to I have to buy a decal that advertises "Ford" on the winshield or "Oakley" in my rear window?  Why does my golf bag have to advertise "Titleist"?  Why do I have to buy a bumper sticker that says that I have been to the "Snake Farm" ?  Shouldn't these all be free?

Neill,
With the larger items, Ford, etc. I agree - notice they don't charge you for putting the dealership decal/license plate frame on your car (two items I remove immediately upon arriving home - partly out of principle but mostly because these items detract from the car's appearance).  They just kinda "show up" on the car.

I realize that you're mostly ranting, but aside from the abuse of programs offering free items, the cost of these trinket, promotional-type items is dictated by free markets.  If there's a buyer, there's a market.

Joe

Joe,

I am with you 100%.  I guess my primary issue is that some people will actually pay for these things.  I guess they wouldn't sell any if people didn't buy them.  Your point, exactly.

As far as the license plate frames, I immediately remove the ones with the dealer name on them and replace them with the ones that look like a chain.  ;)

Last time I bought a new car, the dealer had a small plastic plate with his logo on it.  It was applied to the back bumper with thick double sided tape.  Once I bought the car, signed the papers and walked out with the sales man to take the car home, I asked him if his body shop could remove it because I purchased the car and I didn't want it on there.  They wouldn't remove it.  It was a hot sunny day and I walked up to the car and ripped it off myself right in front of the guy.  It came off easy because it was hot and I knew it would.  I used to detail cars for a living so I knew if any adhesive was left on the car I would be able to take it off.

Those things really upset me.  You pay $30,000 for a new car and then they go ahead and put there name all of it.  It drives me nuts.

I've purchased a number of new cars over the years and on every sales contract, it's stated in there that there will be NO non-factory items affixed to the vehicle!

In fact, before I sign for delivery I perform a walk-around.  If I find anything that should not be there, or something is amiss, I wait until whatever is "wrong", is corrected.

When we were about to take delivery of a new 4-Runner in 1990, I noticed a dealer emblem on the rear hatch.  I asked it be removed and was told it could not since it was already affixed and would damage the paint... :-\  Fine, call us when you order a replacement vehicle and it's on the lot and we walked out.  We did not even make it home when the was ringing off the hook telling us they "found a way" to remove the emblem without damaging the paint.  ???

I use to be a federally licensed firearms dealer, and we had to keep precise records of every transaction we made. We had to account for how we got each weapon and what we did with it. And we had to keep those records forever, turning them in if/when we gave up our license.

The BATF can track the ownership of any gun, cradle to grave. Unless of course it's stolen and it goes off the radar.

John, you should know better, firearms aren't weapons. That is unless someone uses them against another person(s). I really hate that we tend to automatically think of firearms as weapons. In reality very, very few firearms have ever been used as weapons.

Sorry All fire arms are weapons as they are all " devices designed to inflict injury or death on an opponent" it matters not if that opponent is a Bamby or a Rambo wanaby.

There can be a discussion as to if they have been used as a weapon. However that they are in fact weapons is not debatable.

To the OP, ForumMFG, I'm impressed you went to tall this trouble, but am glad there are people like you out there. Also, as a U of M grad, I thank you! :-)

Seriously, it is a real jungle out there. From Craig's list to Ebay to anything. Buying or selling. In my experience, selling a car is the worst. I keep detailed records and am 100% honest, yet always seem to have some guy come over who wants me to not sign the title and let him have my plates so he can get the car home. I swear, I have had this happen three times in ten years. Of course I say no to both requests. Hello? I have no idea what these shysters are trying to pull, but I am sick of it - trade ins are the way to go for me and it is worth the financial hit. I have thought about selling some of my power tools and audio equipment, but lord knows what kind of scum bag or scammer is going to come over and in my house no scum bags are allowed. It's really too bad. I have met some really nice people through classified purchases, but the risks seem to be getting higher.
