Hi all

From reading various threads it appears the Conturo is well thought of, along with the MFK700 for edge banding. The Conturo is still out of stock most places, is there good alternatives ? Also on a related point, why do people not use 0.5mm thick edging and recommend to go thicker ?

.5mm edgeband sucks on all levels.  its flimsy and easily damaged and offers no protection for the casework.  Its also so thin that it is hard to run through the conturo at the recommended temp for the conturo glue it will start to soften the edgeband to the point that the edges get all wavy which makes it very hard to trim.  I know some say you can turn down the temp so it doesnt melt/get as wavy but why?  stuff is pretty much useless to me someone gave me almost a full roll and I used it to help hold insulation up between joists until the drywall went in.  It works good for that but not cabinets. 1mm is standard for me performs better, looks better and applies better and still easy to trim. win-win-win-win.

The thin stuff just does not look good. It is so thin that the texture shows through. Whether that is the particle board, plywood or even the glue itself, you can see it. Thicker edging covers much better. 1mm seems to be the sweet-spot. It is thin enough to be easily cut/scraped/razored, but not so thin that it causes problems.
