Hi I'm new to this forum and have most festool machines I send all my blades in for sharpening but found no one willing to have a go at sharpening the ehl blades ??
Does anyone know how or who I use these blades all of the time and proberbly need 1 every 2 week so gets very exspensive

Not sure it is able to be sharpened as it's a disposable blade, not to mention the shape of the blade would probably require some sort of proprietary jig.. What exactly are you doing to use two a month?

Hi thanks for reply
I fit a lot of oak doors so I find the most doors I can plane with one blade is around 8-12 then it will start to not drop in to acheive odd shape stiles

I guess you just have to apportion the cost per door. When you consider the blade is £12 in the U.K. It costs you £1 per door. Add to that the fact you don't need to do a final sand or hand plane due to the skewed blade not leaving chatter marks, and I think it's still good value.

I seem to remember seeing a veritas honing jig for sharpening electric planer blades basically holds the blade fro sharpening on a whetstone.

Not sure it will work for the diagonal skew of the Festool blades.

Hi there!  I have a contact that sharpens everything from saw blades to well, yes, my ehl 65 blades!  The problem is, I only had him do it the one time.  He sharpened the blade, it looked and appeared very keen.  But, after installing and trying it out, there were some obvious issues.

The first issue- Vibration!  The machine felt like it was completely out of balance somehow! I suppose they removed a "Little" weight but i had no idea that it would cause it to feel completely unusable!!!  [eek]  It didn't LOOK that much smaller!!!
So maybe thats why with the proper blade installed, it keeps the balance correct and gives us that smooth feel we love?  [big grin]
Thankfully I've never experienced a broken or chipped blade!  Unlike the small bosch blades that would chip and die quite fast!!

The other issue- Planer depth guage incorrect.  By removing blade material to sharpen, the depth scale was quite off!!  [unsure]  I suppose this issue could be easily worked around by just remembering to zero out the depth at .4 mm or whatever it was...Maybe it was .3mm.  Either way, it was noticable.

Maybe this could have worked out if it didn't "require" so much sharpening?  Maybe just a slight file with a diamond stone?

I run my blades a little longer that I probably should.  Maybe change them out every 3 to 6 months.  I use it mostly for removing material out of the back of 1x4 door casing.  Usually 1 to 1.5 mm allows a flat board to actually Sit Flat!!

I love the ehl 65, and am glad I bought one a few years ago right as they were being discontinued in NA.  Please Festool, bring it back to the U.S.A. !!!!!  Oh, and when you do, please put the Plug-it cord connect on it as well... [big grin]There is absolutely NO competition for that size range.  ( 65 mm)  Works like a charm.

That would have be checked by someone who owns the veritas honing guide. Maybe the tolerance are just to fine to allow sharpening of skewed plane blades as the previous poster recounts.

Thanks for all replys .......... I have noticed a copy on eBay of the blade which is going for around £10 looking at it on the picture it doesn't look angled on the edges to fit correct and also the price doesn't really attract you to swop or even try ... love the planer just a bit of a shame they don't do a recycle price ....
