Just finished watching the first episode and I've gotta say, I enjoyed this season premiere MUCH more than Framework. They definitely focused more on the build and the design and seemed to put no emphasis on drama or anything like that which was nice.

Now onto the tools used in this show....

WOW

Whoever was in charge of getting participation from tool manufacturers needs a serious round of applause.

Festool, Festool and FESTOOL
Jet
Fein
Woodpecker

Some serious top notch brands for woodworking not to mention some incredible metal working tools. Oh, and a straight up CNC machine.

I was really impressed with this episode and the challenge was also incredibly thought out.

Anyone else see this episode?

i enjoyed it! however i thought a furniture "designer" would include them doing the whole thing and not involving a skilled carpenter? which is different from frameworks. alot less bickering, chip wade always comes up with crafty design ideas and he knows how to execute them. both shows so far havent showed someone with the talent to design/metal/wood/upholstery/duct tape/hot glue all in one jack of all. Anyhow i cannot get over the idea of if youre a furniture design star and cannot build it yourself.

Agree with tee.  The fact that the designers needed a carpenter to complete the task was what I didn't like.  One lady flat out admitted she doesn't build anything.

I did like the tools, maybe we could help them relocate some of those items when the show is done.  To my shop.

The project that won, was in my opinion the best project.

I find this show to be much more to my liking.  More about the actual design and build process.  Adding the carpenter is an advantage for a show like this as it allows for more ambitious projects.

Also like the addition of the blacksmith as a designer / builder - brings in another form of furniture building which is to my liking.

The campaign desk was awesome!  Was not impressed with the two flat panel wall projects. The "wave" desk struck me as odd - though seeing the use of the CNC machine cool.  The chair should have gotten the guy booted...

The show is about furniture designers.  As such I can easily see many different types of designers having a hands-off approach.  "I hire you to make it happen."  My daughter worked for just such an mural artist.  The artist did the concept -  it was up to my daughter and a painter to make it happen.  Guess who made the big money?  The artist was rather mercurial in temperament - very similar to the designer we saw last night.

I didn't get a chance to watch the show but wan't to throw my opinion in on designers and the need for carpenters.  Designers should design just like architects.  That is what they are trained, or supposedly trained to do.  Carpenters are trained,or not trained to build.

The DIY tv phenomenon has brainwashed the public into believing that there are so many crossovers and that designers should also be hands on that frankly I believe it is demeaning and damaging to the craft and profession.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Peter

There were definitely two designers that weren't hands on that I could tell. The older female and the female who drew with crayons. All the other designers looked to be completely hands on, especially the blacksmith, guy who made the chair and the guy who made the campaign desk. I think at least half of the designers probably didn't need the carpenters but it's also a different dynamic to put the carpenters in there to help.

After only one episode it looks like Tim, the guy with Chip Wade (Chip is awesome) looks to be the most talented. Both in design and building ability.

Is there a place to watch full episodes online.

Let me preface by saying "a legitimate" place (no spam sites, or overseas "free tv" portals.  I checked Hulu and Xfinity and couldn't find it).

You should be able to watch the episodes on HGTV.com. I believe I saw a few "watch online" captions during the show.

I tried to find somewhere too. There were a couple of YouTube vids, but they turned out to be links to dodgy-looking sites that want a credit card number "for verification". Yeah, right. I'm not quite that stupid... [huh]

frame works tonight!  [big grin] make me some furniture! hang on let me draw it on paper because im not hands on. youre basically a interior/exterior designer at this point. i have to take "ellens design challenge" more literally lol. It takes more skill and talent to have someone create something and built it from scratch. drawing something up on sketchup and presenting it in theory is nice but to have the know hows, using different type of tools, knowing types of metal that can and cannot be fused takes a special individual.

anyhow the the chair guy just showed his metal working but failed to incorporate the rest of the materials available. i think thats why the judges were impressed by the wave desk. the first challenge is fair because everyone started off with the same materials.

#Tee did you watch the episode? Sure a couple of the contestants didn't have any shots of them actually building but the other four were elbows deep in the build working WITH their carpenter helpers, not just besides them. So they have help from licence carpenters, that doesn't mean the contestants aren't as skilled at the building side of things as the people in Framework.

It's just a different setup, both shows are amusing, just in different ways. Frankly I'd love to see how Tim would fare against Jory in Framework.

yes i watched from beginning to end, the lady that got the boot looked clueless as she was butting heads with her carpenter. she admitted that she dont build as for the others the blacksmith girl was good! im always a little turned off whenever a CNC is involved call me old fashion but drawing something up and have a machine do all the work takes away from the craft imo.

i was mainly talking about the lady that lost. the other contestants actually put in work. but far as what the designer and the carpenter really did i dont know. i follow chip wade on ig and he posted alot of the design of the winning piece and didnt say who designed or built it. the designer said he came up with the design but chip posted on his ig as if he did it. anyways onto frameworks tonight!

I'm hoping this week's episode of Framework builds on last weeks. Last week was a food episode.

I don't know if this Youtube poster is legit, but it's the full episode and at least it's not a sketchy site!:

I am actually surprised many people thought Ellen's design show was better than framework.I think the talent on the show is way less and what they designed and built with the time allowed was disappointing when compared to frameworks projects. Just my opinion. I do wish we seen more of the build on framer work but overall I would choose framework to watch as the contestants are overall more skilled in design and know how to build. Just my opinion.

How can the Cowboy guy have made the screw under the stool ? The one that allows to move the stool up and down by turning it .
I don't know much about metal work, but that seems like impossible to me.

I like both for different reasons which means I'll have two shows to watch Monday and Tuesday instead of just watching sports.
