Hi there,

Firstly; as I dip my toes into Festool just wanted to say what an amazing resource this site has been, (even for Mafell but we shan’t dwell on that  ;) )

My first post funnily enough is about my first tool from Festool, which I only took delivery of today. It’s an ETS 150/5 sander which I’ve  purchased as an all rounder however when I opened the box I noticed the metal areas had some flash still left on from what I assume was the casting process.

One side being completely clean and the other having a fair bit of flash. Now while I don’t think this will impact tool performance I wanted to reach out and see if this is normal on the ETs 150/5s or whether it’s something which I should see if Festool would rectify.

I’ve attached a couple photos showing the clean side (with the Festool logo) the flashing on the other side (with the product info sticker)

Normally I wouldn’t be this bothered by it but I guess it’s more a question of if something isn’t right probably best to put it right before using the tool.

Thanks in advance!

Those are probably the "gates" (sometimes called ingates) which are the smaller paths to the part, coming from the main runner. "Flash" is excess "leakage" around the seam line. Purely semantics in this case [big grin]
They are fairly common and certainly don't hurt anything. It would be impossible to replicate the texture of the casting though, so broken/cut off close would be no worse than grinding a smooth spot, the texture difference would still show.

Hello Shoemaker-
welcome to the FOG.

My take on your question: since you noticed it and it is less perfect than you expected, just return the tool and let them know "why" so they can satisfy you.

You should feel good about your purchase and your choice of the FESTOOL brand.

Enjoy FESTOOL's superb source-dustcollection [smile]
